Yea but three hours will. Which is the point.
But that's not what Giddings said, which is who I was responding to.
I do agree that 3 hours sitting in the stand with a screen is damaging, wasteful and rather pointless.

Devil's advocate take: When I take my 3 year old hunting and get an hour and a half of "hunting attention" from him, 30 minutes of watching tractors on my phone is sometimes the only way to make it through the end of the hunt. And we are minimal screen parents. If hunting is not enjoyable for him, he'll lose interest I'm sure and I'm not letting that happen. And right now, he asks to go hunting weekly.
But I get your point. If he was older I'd be on board.
I hear you...but we made it through not having them, right?

What people hunt out of today is mind boggling to me. When I was a kid, my dad and I would sit under the base of a tree on an old boat cushion out in Mason County. It was just us, our guns, and nature. We killed a lot of deer like that. Some of my best memories with my dad were spent there. I thought it was great.

I mean, I first hunted on the ground and on "lean-to" blinds in Arkansas and had a blast, but that doesn't mean I am going to hunt that way my entire life. If I have the means and ability to hunt out of a blind and keep me and my kids out of the elements, why not do that?
I am not going to stick to the old ways of doing things just because of nostalgia...

Similar for me. My dad would pile up some logs, dead limbs and cedar bushes, around a tree …put an old quilt on the ground and we would sit. I always imagined it being a fort and Indians were attacking us.. No iPad or phone needed.

I don't know about anyone else but I have had some of my best naps I've ever had in a blind in an afternoon hunt. I mean drooling on your jacket type of naps. Guess cause I was so stressed working during the week I finally relaxed.

A bit off topic but I spent many a Saturday in a blind with a small radio with the volume at a whisper listening to Dave South.

I suggest adults try this approach as well….
This is my biggest pet peeve when in elk camp with clients. I dont ever say anything but it is amazing to me to spend $6000+ to ride into the backcountry, hunt elk and at night you are on a freakingIpad or your phone and not enjoying the moment.

I need to hear this advice as well. I try all the time to just sit and be still, but 90% of my hunts I'm on texags or ESPN app. These phones are addictive as hell even for adults.

same here. but I swear I never see **** when I am just looking an browsing the skyline. If I look down at my phone I always look up to a deer that has me in a bind for getting a shot off.
