Anyone have any news or inside knowledge on progress of this being completed? Really looking forward to it once finished.

Land that TPWD has purchased with your tax dollars but you cannot use because they are still under construction, yet somehow have plenty of time for Facebook posts.

Update, but seems like it is "still a work in progress".

Yep. The delays in getting this place up and running and the failure to properly fund them from the outset are an embarrassment as big as the Fairfield Lake State Park debacle. It just has made less news as it's been a slower screw up. The first 3300 acres was acquired in 2011 and the current space, plus lease of Tucker lake from the City of Strawn occurred by 2014.

We are going into the 12th year after full acquisition without full public access. And when it opens it will immediately be too small with only 25 RV sites, 10 equestrian sites, 12 walk in tent sites, and 14 primitive sites.

I support and love our State Parks system but I'd understand if landowners were hesitant to donate land with the recent track record.

Gotta let the VIP's break it in first for a couple of years.

The fact that they're STILL not answering the question of when it will open is, at the very least, disconcerting. They originally said opening in 2023, then pushed that back to 2025. Neither were anywhere close to ready. I would not plan on this thing being fully open until summer of 2027 at the earliest. Parts of it this summer, perhaps, but little worth going to other than day hikes.

They need to make day entry (not camping or RV) free for a year or two.

I have a feeling there was some fraud going on with the construction

TPWD park policy is a joke. Every place has to be overbuilt.

I'm appreciative of all of the acquisitions.

I believe they have been allowing lottery hunting on these parcels while they build, which is good.

With any acquisition, I'd like to see dirt parking lots and hiking trails built (with volunteers if necessary) as a first priority. This allows quick public access.

Look to our national forest as an example. They have simple trailheads, volunteer managed trails, prefabricated restrooms, etc.
