Ha. Lol
Full disclosure it was my kids school PTO fundraiser. So not a competition "competition". Kids were supposed to cook it as much as their skill level would allow (all 5th grade and younger).
About 12 entries, and most were decent but very "soupy." Even had a chicken chili entrants.

Every person that attended (kids and all) was given cups, spoons and 1 Lima bean to vote by placing in a tin can next to the crock pot.

I feel a bit slighted as you could "buy" more beans to vote for your favorite. There is a wonderful family who has that grandma who ensures her grandkid always wins (raffles, fundraisers etc). She purchased a few extra votes and placed them in her kids entry. Their chili was good, and it did have beans too.

I think there was only 1 non bean entry and it was delicious (kind of a brown sugar/bourbon flavor), and it got 3rd place.

All in all it was fun to have the kids chop the onions, measure the spices and create their chilis and learn.

There were a couple families that are California immigrants to Texas, escaping the loonies out there… so maybe that influenced it a bit too. Lol.

Can't help with game meat… but here's some chili I'm cooking for a cook off. Made with bacon fat, ground beef and BEANS and home grown chilis. Let's the Internet rage battle continue…

Looks good, whatever it is.

I grew up poor with parents who were raised during the depression.

I have no problem abiding beans in chili.

However, whatever that stuff they make in and around Cincinnati has no business being called chili.
