Getting a Goldendoodle puppy next week and I want some kind of GPS tracking capability in case he gets loose. Is an AirTag holder for the collar sufficient or is there something different I should be looking at?

Halo, SpotOn and PetSafe are the ones I've been looking in to. You can set a geofence on their apps, you pay a monthly service on top of the initial fee for the collar though. Lost a hunting dog bc he jumped a fence, wish id have had that on him when he escaped and I could have tracked him down before he disappeared completely.

I was researching this the other day after seeing the advertisement for the life 360 tile products.
itagpro showed up on the searches as being the top rated overall but I have no experience using anything but the AirTags.
Considering adding a non AirTag product to some vehicles and equipment. I Hate thieves.

Don't get a Halo collar. They're junk.

Airtags are only useful if they're near someone with an iPhone. If they're out in the woods then you won't have any idea where the dog is.

I've been using a Tractive collar on my dog for about a year. Goes about a few weeks between charges. Battery use depends on how often they're on Cell signal vs Wifi. Live tracking works great and is accurate. Can set geo fences so you know when your dog leaves the area. Can take a minute or two to alert if they leave the geofence since the collar doesn't send location back every second to save battery unless you're in live mode.

The collar helps since my wife and kids can't stop letting the dogs out without watching them. We even have a fenced side yard but that's too much trouble for them. One of our dogs got let out one night and came back injured pretty badly, still no idea if they got hit by a car, kicked by a horse/cow or something else. Collar is a lot cheaper than a vet bill like that. I can be at work, get an alert and text my wife/kids to get the dog back onto our property. They also get the alerts that the dog is out but they ignore it unless I make them get their ass up. Rant off.
