My son wants to hike/camp Lost Maples State Park when he's home over the break. Never been, so I'm looking for recommendations for which primitive camp site to target. I'm sure some are better than others. Thanks in advance!

We take our scouts there every few years. Arrive Friday night and hike to the site in the dark. Park at the East Trail head parking area. Take East trail and then take the first left onto the West Trail. Steep at the end. There's two primitive sites at the top that are pretty much in some grass and a little scrub, latrine is a close walk. I think we usually go to the one that's right of the latrines. We'll hike big loops around the park from there.

Have fun, beautiful park!

How much hiking you wanting to do? I have camped A to C (back when you could camp C), but also B to D.

I like the hike up and over from A to C. It is steep up and down, take your time. But I think the river on the east trail is pretty, especially the grotto.

Can fish the ponds. Guadalupe bass are tough. Typically had success at night with top water. They would come out when presented a frog, but water so clear they would see you and spook.

The west trail is great and can be extended by doing the loop.

C was the one of the best backcountry sites in the state park system. One day they will reopen it.

Done this trip 3x:
We take the east trail to A the first night. (Don't miss Monkey Rock)
Have lunch at Campsite C area by River
Second night we camp at F
Easy hike out the last day.
