What's your budget? Reputable green timber hunts are pretty steep.

No expectations at this point. I know what reputable Texas lodges/guides charge. If green timber hunts are more costly, I happy to pay the going rate. May have the leverage of a sizable group for a multi-day trip (we're all hunting retriever guys). Do you have some recommendations?

$1250 a gun/ day.

I hunt Stuttgart. Use 2W Outfitters. They're $650 per day all-in…lodging, meals, etc…. They hunt timbers and ponds. I usually request timbers 2 out of 3 mornings. Speck hunts in the afternoons. Request Brad Gordy as your guide. Great guy and AG.

$1250/gun/day and they're 100% booked for the season and have a wait list for next season.

Yeah, ist pretty crazy but like a lot of hunting, the demand outweighs the supply. Supposedly they have enough timber that they can hunt in the woods every day without having to hunt the same spot two days in a row. I have some buddies that used to go every year. They always enjoyed it but didnt always shoot limits. They were paying $850 a day and stopped when the price went up from there.

Fact is there just isnt that many green timber flats left that are private. It's all been converted to cropland or it's state or federally owned. Most places selling you green timber hunts are actually putting people in cypress oxbows and other holes along the edge of cropland. Or the most common one is you ask for and book a timber hunt and show up to be told "the ducks havent been in the woods, they're using the fields".

Bryan Glass with Redleg Outfitters in Paris
Hunter Powell with B&H Outfitters in Sulpher Springs - They hunt private land but have some good timber, mostly gadwall, wood ducks, with mallards mixed in.
