I run it in a ten-man tent. Set up a small card table in the corner. Works great.

Yeah. that seemed different than the OP sleeping in a "cheap tent". Given room, a portable heater is great. I wouldn't want one in my tents I use to backpack.

Probably too late for OP, but Ozlo sleep buds are a game changer for that sort of scenario. I've shared a room in a lodge with a guy who snored louder than I thought humanly possible, and they allowed me to actually sleep (actually the OG Bose version, and Ozlo is just that design with some upgrades).
