Afternoon, DVM Ags!

Have a 3 year old mix, likely terrier/dachsund/chihuahua, who was diagnosed yesterday at our local vet with a CCL tear in rear left leg. She injured it Friday night after letting her out in the backyard following supper, did not see what spurred the issue. She is not putting any weight on that leg.

Our vet referred us to a local specialist hospital, Blue Pearl, here in San Antonio. We have experience with them some years back, with no issues, and have a consult with them next week.

Are there any recommendations here to other specialist DVM's with whom to possibly consult locally, or perhaps back at the mothership?

OP - I'm an orthopedic surgeon at A&M. Happy to discuss how we handle surgical cases in college station if you'd like. Would need your primary dvm to call in a referral as they have done for BP there in SA. PM me or post contact info if you'd like to follow up.

I will say I had a yellow lab male that had both knees redone via TPLO. He was a hunting dog and after those surgeries he was as good as new and hunted for another 5 years afterwards.
He had TPLO done and then the orthopedic vet told me he would probably be back for his other knee. Sure enough, 18 months later he did it to his other knee. But we hunted and trained regularly so it was like an athlete tearing his ACL/MCL from what the vet told me.
It was well worth the investment, albeit an unexpected expense.
