We hunt in Duval county so no issue with acorns. Weather appeared to be a factor as the heat kept deer in the brush longer, even with rut going on. Noticeable change for the better when front blew through on the 28th. And as for trying to stalk deer on the ground in the dense South Texas scrub, my brush jacket can only take so much and i might as well be shaking a couple maracas.

This was arguably the best year we have had in about 6-7 years in Uvalde County. Albeit the last 6-7 years have been god awful... regardless, we have seen a bunch of 2-3 year olds with potential and have probably 4-5 bucks that are "mature" trophies. I was only able to see 2 of them during the season (both of which I let walk another year).

We have had a big problem with our deer herd being decimated by a mountain lion, likely coyotes too, a massive influx of aoudad, and maybe something else. It has been incredibly frustrating to endure but I know the potential of where we hunt and we're making a lot of efforts to improve things.

Close to you on the boundary of Young and Throckmorton counties.

Disappointing year but for different reasons.

Plenty of doe. In fact, for the first time in a number of year, we need to thin.

Plenty of bucks 1-3 years old.

Very few mature bucks.

No sits this year or last where I did not see a deer. More important for me when my sons were younger but still good to see deer every time my arse is in the stand.

Last year was exciting as you could see what happened 3-4ysr after the hard freezes in 2021 and 2022.

We are in far northern Coryell Co as well. Been shockingly slow this year.

Last year there was a dip, and this year has been dramatic. We did have TERRIBLE flooding last year, and we have been wondering if that displaced or killed a lot of deer in our area. We have seen zero older bucks this year. The oldest is a 3.5, MAYBE 4.5 yo broken up 10 point, who isn't super big. Then a couple very small very young bucks, and a couple groups of does.

Our 300 acres, we have had years where you could easily see 50-60 deer most evenings. An average year, you are still seeing 30'ish deer and a couple mature bucks most sits.

This year, we see the same group of does in each area, which a couple spikes/scrub bucks roaming. Occasionally see that broken up 10 pointer.

I know the drought has taken a toll the last few years, but this year is BAD.

Lots of turkey, though!

Where about are you located ? The floods have vans through our area too

We are just south of Evant, on the west side of 281. Had 2 bad floods a few months apart. 15 years ago, we would get occasional high water through our pecan bottoms (we have a creek that snakes through the ranch). But never more than a foot or two of water. And the river would run with water for about 3/4 of the year, and hold pockets during dry times.

But, with all the droughts, the river on our place is just a wet weather creek now. Then we had those two HUGE storms in '24. The first one brought 6-8 foot of water through our upper valley, washing away the barn, trailer, some equipment, and fencing. After we got all the materials staged up there to rebuild the front fence, another round came and washed all that away. We were able to dig out most of the barbed wire and some of the posts, but still added 2 more weekends of crappy work just to recover materials.

We use to hunt out around pearl/ izoro .. always went to the Elk stop cafe to get a burger .. good stuff!

We hunt Kimble Co. north of Junction. Worst deer season in 35 years. Don't think it was just the acorns.

Down in Duval Co. to squeeze in three hunts this weekend. Tomorrow morning may be a wash with the wind. But glad to have the cooler weather.

I've seen a ton of them on the Miramont and Traditions golf courses in Bryan.

Then there was the 8 pointer I almost got with my truck right by Discount Tire...

Checking in from western Hamilton and Mills counties…

Dad gum acorns. Everyone has winter wheat/oats/triticale. Heck the browse was even green a month longer than normal

The deer are starting to get more hungry but still one of the worst hunting years for me in a decade or so

We hunt in Mills not far from Center City. Very slow year. Too many acorns. Mature bucks were never seen at feeders this season at all. Only really nice 8 that was probably a shooter was chasing a doe across one of our fields and never stopped running. It was green up there well through the season. Acorns and natural forage kept the mature deer in the woods. We had a nice buck on camera last night that should be a stud next year. Naturally no one saw him during season. I think there are still plenty of deer but man we didn't see a whole lot other than doe and very young bucks. Also what's weird is the hog population went nocturnal opening weekend of rifle. We always shoot pigs during deer season but never saw one during daylight hours. Was weird never having hogs run deer off from the feeders this season.

To be honest a live thread would have have been pretty boring. But alas, two does taken this morning.

Northern La Salle county. Plenty of deer (though we've always had a lot of deer) and they're in good condition now, but based on previous years, antler development is inferior, and the average age of the herd has decreased. It looks like the worst of the drought hit at exactly the wrong time and stunted antler development and took a big toll on the older deer. Still have a lot of turkey, hogs and dove but quail numbers are way down too. Definitely one of the worst years on the lease. Edit to add lots more spikes too. Definitely not the year to cull many of those, if any.
