Alright all you electricians! Is this up to code?

Electricians say this is how they normally run the conduit, but GPT says that NEC recommends running all conduit between/inside the web joists and avoid mounting underneath because it is more suspectable to getting hit. So it appears code allows this but only when there is an excuse to (other than it "being easier").

Another option is running just MC instead of EMT?

Am I being too picky or just uninformed?

Nothing wrong with it, no different than surface mounting conduit on unistrut on walls or ceilings. If you are running forklifts regularly through there, then sure, put it inside the web. Otherwise no big deal.

Inside the strut would look prettier, but if you ever had to do significant work to the electrical it would make the job a lot harder.

Nothing wrong with it, conduit is run on the bottom of bar joists all the time. Really all of the time.

Not an electrician but I do wire all of my own stuff I lcuindg panels, service entrances and my shops. Personally, that's where I would put it as well. I don't particularly care about code in some instances. I try to meet it but those guys don't have to work on this **** so I do what I need to do to make it serviceable. If I hit my conduit (placed exactly like yours) at 14' high, then I need to have a come to Jesus meeting with myself and evaluate my operations. Lol.

I think it's fine and it's a hell of a lot easier to make changes like it is, and you will be making changes in the future.

I agree with what Schmellba pointed out, if your framing was red iron, you would mount it exactly like it is and no one would think anything of it.
