Learn how to do something without watching a YouTube video.
Too many young people are almost totally visual learners - because that's how their brains have been trained. They have no common sense, and can't figure simple things out.
I love YouTube videos because they will discuss the order to do the work which is great if you're faced with a complex job that you've never done before. When I rebuilt my front end I had never done it before and that was definitely a job that I needed to follow specific steps on.
That said, I have no theory of mind for someone that needs a YouTube video for simple tasks like fixing a tire or replacing an electrical fixture.
I agree. They are a good resource, but not a substitute for developing problem solving skills. All I'm saying is that I've seen for too many young people today who can't solve simple tasks without their electronic device, or who use their electronic device to substitute for their brain (i.e. using a math app to "solve a problem", and then can't do the problem on an exam).
The brain chemistry of recent learners is vastly different than previous generations. They can't solve abstract problems; they can only sometimes solve concrete problems.
I think the worst thing that we've done in education is mandating the use of computers for everything. It invites a lot more cheating and makes it alot easier.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.
