Got a group of guys I work with wanting to go and possibly add a duck hunt on a 2nd day. Who do we go with, and does anyone in the panhandle not charge $400 for a duck hunt? Trying to keep it somewhat reasonably priced. This would be for next season, Trying to plan early

Prices have gotten really high. I haven't found anything below $300 unless you don't want a guide and just want them to drop you off at a blind.

My niece married a guy who is an outfitter. His name is Cameron. His outfit is called Square Mile outfitters. Tell him Brandon sent you.

We use him every year and he always puts us on birds. We hunt +/- 20 miles from the Lamesa area. We hunted in December and he was charging $395/hunt/gun.

Yep. Crooked Wing or Twisted Feather. Stay far away from Long Necks...

Square mile kills lots of birds.

Dry Creek Outdoors/Outfitters outside of Wichita Falls (Holliday, TX) was unreal 2 weeks ago they have the full blown lodge/guide experience though so likely pricier.

Not sure if you're still looking OP, but I went on a crane hunt with Tule Creek Outfitters recently and it was an absolute blast. Nothing fancy but good times and great hunting. They are located in Tulia, Tx

Dane runs a great operation. Took some of his dogs to Idaho with me a few years ago for a 3 week upland trip.

Do any of these guys do smaller groups? I've got a handful of guys looking to go without getting added to another group

Square Mile considers a full group at least six on a weekday. In a weekend you'll need eight. At least that's how it was last I went.

You mean 10 more added to my group of six, lined up shoulder to shoulder in a long prop up blind, shooting passing over geese (only 5 were killed) isn't the norm? That was my first day experience with Prairie Bomb Outfitters. The second day was a better set up but 11 others were added to our group. Yeah, don't use Prairie Bomb Outfitters out of Amarillo.

This was 100% my experience with Prairie Bomb as well. 3 crane hunts shoved in a blind with 8 other guys our group of 4 didn't know. 1 crane killed. We had 1 decent duck hunt but the set up was terrible and again, a group of 12 shoulder to shoulder in a half ass brushed in panel blind. I would not recommend Prairie Bomb to anyone.

The owner told me before the first day that there was another group booked but they would be in a different part of the field. Nope- literally 16 of us crammed shoulder to shoulder to maybe get a shot at some geese that were leaving roosts in town.

The next day was layouts spaced 5 feet apart but 17 total hunters. Fortunately for us, most of the geese were coming in to our side. No limits were shot but it was a decent shoot.

This was my first goose hunt. Lesson learned- I know what questions to ask next time.

Good Lord I would be super pissy if I was placed in a blind with people I didn't know.

We use Red Eye.

Pro tip, find a VRBO in Lubbock with a hot tub. Treat yourself, Kings.

Also looking for a crane and Pdog outfitter, do you know the minimum size group Red Eye needs for booking a crane hunt? Have you shot Pdogs by chance with Red Eye?

Square Mile put us in layout blinds and when the crane weren't flying they had us shoot geese.

They want a 6 man minimum, however I think you ca just pay your way towards a smaller group if need be. Yes the prairie dogs are a blast too. We also sometimes add a pheasant/ chukker hunt one afternoon as well.

I have been hunting with Dane at Tulia Creek for almost 20 years now, just got back from there last weekend. Like the above posted stated nothing fancy but we always shoot birds. If you're wanting to shoot cranes he recommends November or early December for your best shot. Ducks will be dependent on water, but theres always geese.

Local here:
Whoever you go with, I would encourage you to find one that is established locally and has been around for several years. A legit website and a lodge are good indicators, and make sure they hunt over full body crane decoys. Every Tech and WT kid with ONX and a dive discount code calls themself an outfitter and I've heard countless horror stories of everything up to trespass and poaching charges on entire groups. Another issue is the popup guys have a tendency to not pay their farmers they hunt and it ruins it for everyone else that asks that farmer for permission.

Here is a short list of reputable guides. Theres's definitely more, these are just the guys I know off the top of my head that are local or established.

Plainview:
Sea to Sky (my recommendation, many on this board with them as well)
Panhandle Flyways

Lubbock:
Crooked Wing
Fowl Plains
Tejas (I think they might have changed ownership but as far as I know they're still legit)
Final Decent
Playa Lake Farm and Ranch might run hunts, I'm not sure if they're a private club or not. They own all their land though.

Amarillo/ Tulia
Tule Creek
*Ranger Creek (not Amarillo but appears to be reputable)
*removed based on above posters experience

Edit to add: if you go early season, I would try to stay north of Tulia, and Lubbock area for the later season. Plainview area is great mid season. This definitely isn't a hard rule, we killed a limit of cranes the other day in 30 minutes outside of Plainview, but the season definitely peaks in different places at different times

Isn't Ranger Creek around Knox City/Haskell? I didn't know they hunted up that way too. Been on a few really good hunts with Ranger Creek, but we hunted around Benjamin/Knox City the three times I've been with them. They run a great operation.

That was one of the big reason Schreckenbach sold out and left, he just got tired of the BS with it.

The same vendor used to go with Tejas (he was actually on their TV hunt) and something happened that caused them to switch to Muddy.

You're right, I thought they were Amarillo for some reason.
