Has anyone fished out of Tamarindo inshore and/or offshore? Any recommendations on who to use to take us. We plan on going in mid June this summer. Looking for my 2 boys and I or add the entire family adding the wife and daughter. Appreciate the help.

We have been using a travel agent for the trip so far but wanted to get some ideas from experienced vacationers.

Capullo Sportfishing. Been with them twice and my brother has been out with them 5-6 times.

Best outfit in that area: https://capullo.com/

I have booked a few fishing trips with Steve and Lisa (H&W) of Go Fish Costa Rica (gofishcr.com) with great results. They are "brokers", for lack of a better word, and have relationships with most of the charter operators in the area. Very experienced and knowledgeable. They are based in the area and I met both as they checked on us etc. Honest from all I could tell and bent over backwards to help. I have no "link" to them. Good luck.

Been fishing out of Tamarindo/Flamingo over a dozen times now and have also done fishing trips out of other places on the west side of Costa Rica. Costa Rica is some of the best fishing in the world - great choice! What are you wanting to go for? Offshore is my favorite, but the rooster fishing is a blast too.

We always use Captain Skeet Warren and the Bushwacker. He was our captain for a Marlin U event years ago and not only was he a great teacher, but a really nice guy too. I always recommend the bushwacker team and have had many good reviews from others who have decided to use them too.

Looking forward to seeing some pics of your haul come June.

We went out with a guide from the marina at Flamingo.
It's a blast and if you can find the spinner dolphins you will destroy the yellowtail.
I had never seen anything like that and had no idea about that symbiotic relationship.
Very cool to witness and even better catching so many fish.

I will be there in May, fishing with the Chasin' Fins crew. I'll let you know how it goes.

If you're around Flamingo in the evening, you can fish the beach and the rocks at the marina. I watched the locals fish and learned from them what to use. They were friendly enough. By the time I figured out how to catch fish, our trip was over! I did catch a small shark there. I fished out of Quepos once and fished the jetty there as well. Costa Rica is fantastic.

Did you bring your own gear? What did you use on beach and marina

I brought my own gear as I lived in CR for a year. We stayed at a condo on a little peninsula at Playa Flamingo. On one side was the actual beach and the marina was on the other side of the peninsula. Playa Portrero, I believe. It's where all the charter boats go into the marina.

Near the marina, the beach gives way to steep walls of piled rock that reinforce the marina. You can walk above the rocks on dry ground and then climb down on the rocks and fish in the deeper water. I used smaller hooks with pieces of meat that I lowered into the water next to the rocks and immediately wash catching baitfish up to 7 inches long. Then, I'd put them on large bait hooks and cast them as far out as I could. I fished at sunset and a little after. The locals told me the larger gamefish came into the bay in the evening/night to hunt.

You can go to a fishing store there and buy a roll of fishing line and hooks and just cast the bait out like the locals. They catch a lot of fish that way. Wherever you see the locals fishing, you should be somewhere close to them. They're very friendly people.

By the time I figured out how to fish off the beach, our trip was over. We couldn't afford to pay for a charter boat and spent most of our time on the beaches watching the kids play.

I watched other locals fish off the jetty at Quepos next to Manuel Antonia. They were catching nice fish with top water poppers, usually white with red. Enjoy Costa Rica! It's one of my favorite places.
