"972-945-7957"

By 830 this morning I had gotten three spam calls. The last, the one above, wanted to buy my house (not for sale.). Being frustrated from all the calls, responded take me off you ****ing list you stupid ****. Hung up and blocked the number.

Interestingly the person called back and left a message threatening me and my family with death for "cussing him" on his illegal call to a do not call number.

Not overly worried about the actual threat, but does make me want to take the time to file a complaint if I can track down the actual company. Know it is a long shot, as it is surely a spoofed number, but figure the outdoor board can find it if anyone can.

From Grok.
Possibly a spoofed number from a real estate agent in California

This has become frustrating and something needs to be done.

Its likely a spoofed number. That being the case:

If they called you and you picked up, and you yelled at them, and then they contacted you again and yelled back at you... then screw them.

If they called you, and you called them back and yelled at them... then its likely you called back the true owner of that number and yelled at them. So that may have been the reason they were yelling back at you. There are really two people getting screwed over in these scenarios.. you and the persons number they are spoofing.

They called me both times. Did not hear the second call because on Verizon when you block a number, it doesn't ring, but they can still leave a message. Stupid!

I called the number with *67 on from a different phone this afternoon. A lady answered. Definitely not the dude Carlos with call center noise in the back ground. I didn't bother to talk with her and hung up. Guess I should probably let her know they are using her number.

I agree this problem is getting way out of hand. Feel to me like no one really cares from government to the phone providers.

For most of us it is just a nuisance. I learned too late after two parents passed away in the last few years how bad this actually is to the elderly, whom I am sure is who they are targeting. My mil was getting no less than 40 calls or texts EVERY DAY that were spam. She had also been suckered into "contributing " over 250 bucks a month that she could not afford on a fixed income to political causes. Yes most were probably pure scams, but could also be why politicians aren't too worried about fixing the problem.

Kind of a detail, I know, but if you have elderly relatives you really should have a conversation and check into what they might be spending on those scams.

Seems to be a Dallas area centric conversation but ok, I'll play. I live out in the sticks in Madison county but grew up and lived in the Houston area. I called that number, left a message, and said I was interested in listing my home on Inverness in Houston, it's in the heart of River Oaks. Got your number from a friend, let me know if you're interested.
I despise people like this, if they call back I'll post here.

Fun! Unfortunately I seriously doubt that the real owner of the number was the one that called originally or called back threatening to repent family and kill us all. The real owner is probably innocent. Hence the real problem.

Don't answer phone calls from numbers you don't know...

Swipe up but don't say anything, if it is a spam call the autodial will hang up if there is no response. If it is a legitimate caller they will say something and then you can respond. Just had a call today from a retired coworker I didn't have in my contacts list, would have missed a chance to reconnect if I hadn't picked up.

OMG. I wish that were an option for me. If it was I would only answer for contacts. Unfortunately as a realtor and business owner who gets lots calls from new clients, I can't be that picky on either phone number.

I do usually fool the auto dialers because I don't answer with "hello" unless it is a contact I know is personal.

Question about the spoofing thing.

Does it do any good to know your number is being used? Is there any action you can take if you are informed it is happening?

I could call the lady that appears to own the number, but what good does that do. Or what would I do if someone told me mine was being used?

Somehow doubt that either Verizon or our enforcement agencies care or will don**** about it.

Good question, I'm not sure. I might have to do a little research out of curiosity now.
