Looks like my job is going to pay to relocate me to NW Arkansas! Wife and I are driving in today and staying near Rogers for a week and then possibly moving fairly quickly.

Would love to connect with any Ags in the area. Into hunting, fishing and astrophotography so NW Arkansas is looking pretty exciting!

Myself and 87Flyfisher here on the OB both live in the Mountain Home Arkansas area. 87Flyfisher has lived here longer than I and is a true aficionado on NW Ark.
Would definitely look forward to meeting up with you.
You will like it here.

Got a couple of dogs in training up there and love it more and more every time I visit. If I ever went anywhere other than Texas, that's where I'd go.

Nothing to add other than I spend a week up in Eureka Springs every October with a group of friends. We ride all over the area. If I could move from CS, that area would be where I'd go.

I have a place north of Eureka Springs in Holiday Island. Absolutely LOVE IT! I can drive 30 minutes to Roger's if there is anything I need in the "big city". January and February are beautiful times to be there……if you don't mind days of being stuck in the house. But that is the Ozarks, I am sure Roger/Bentonville are significantly different.

Prayers for you! I came up here about a week and a half ago for 2 days. Flew up and back from Austin. I absolutely fell in love!

Wife and I drove up today and will be looking for places to stay and hopefully get what I need for my job to get moved up here even faster

Were thinking probably went somewhere for the first year. But I'm going to have to drive a lot for my job anyway so if I go to buy a place I am leaning towards something a little farther away out that direction maybe!

A few buddies and I plan on fishing the White River this summer. Never been to Arkansas but I'm excited for it.

I say this all the time, if you could ever get me to leave Texas, it would be to NW Arkansas.

Good luck, Op. I hope it all works out the way you are hoping for.

Highly recommend Craynors Trout Fishing. They also have nice accommodations if needed. Great people.
If you get up this way give us a shoutout. Would like to meet for dinner or such.
Hopefully 87Flyfisher will see this and chime in.

I have a kid at AR right now. We'd never been to that part of the state before he enrolled. It's pulling us HARD. We have another kid in HS, and once she's gone, we're not long for DFW.

It's amazing up there and more affordable to buy. Fayetteville just has so much money flowing into it now. All the big corporations, development, growth. Neighbors moved to Bentonville (Walmart employer) and the pics they post online - the house they have compared to the burbs here.....it's massive and on a few acres. You have every amenity you can imagine.

One thing I can say are the flights in & out can be more complicated. It's more expensive and there are a lot less options compared to DFW/LUV.

I live a mile above the Norfork/White River confluence and Gunny is about an hour away on the AR/MO line so
let us know when you are in the area and we can meet up for lunch or dinner.

I love it up there, at least for 3 seasons. I think they got hammered by the recent snow storm.

I didn't even know that was an option !!! Buddies in DFW picked it bc it's within driving distance- I'm just tagging along.

I'll def keep y'all posted ! It will be mid to late august. We were talking to white river fly anglers. Any feedback on them? Or definitely go with Craynors ??

I'm my opinion:

Craynors is the best if you want to spin fish with either bait or lures.

Jesse Brison is the best for lures and catch and release only.

Diamond State Fly Co., Steve Dally Outfitters, CJ Outfitters are the best choices for fly fishing.

NWA is one of the fastest growing areas in the country right now. And the traffic from Fayetteville to Rogers reflects that. Its an overall conservative area with the liberal pocket of Fayetteville. Eureka is an artsy little village a little over an hour to the east. Cool for a day trip or weekend getaway.

There's 4 actual seasons here, clear flowing creeks and rivers, clearwater lakes, tons of public land for camping, hiking, mountain biking, etc. Smallmouth, spotted, largemouth, bass, trout, crappie, deer, etc., are abundant.

UA sports teams dominate the media here, so the whole state is woo pig, but you learn to ignore it and go on about your day.

You are so right. But you don't want to head any further northeast or get into southern MO. Nothing to see here. Lakes are all dried up and rivers dry. Deer and game all shot out. Nothing to do. Very desolate and bare ground. Best to stay over in that corner next to Oklahoma.

My deal with NW Ark is, does it have what I (and probably only I) call the "Tulsa effect?" That's where winters are harsh (relative to N. Texas), summers are still still hot and don't give you a break in return for cold winters, AND, worst of all, the tornado threat is even higher than it is in N. Texas.

I know no place is perfect and some risks can be minimized (shelters, etc.), but as much as I am getting to hate the very hot summers, I just can't take too many cold days like we've had recently. My skin feels like it is going to flake off from being so dried out.

Being and old and being born and raised and living in the Texas hill country up until five years ago…….and now having lived up here for going on five years, I will say there is no more threat of Tornadoes than what we had in Kimble county. Also the seasons here now are just about like we used to have in the late 50's, 60's and 70's in the hill country.
It's nice to have four true seasons again and RAIN. Winters are mild for the most part with some cold mid -January to mid February.
And it's very nice to not get above 90 as a high till July 4th weekend.
To me, climate wise, it's like living in the Texas hill country when I was young except there is taller hills and bigger trees and lots more water.

In Tulsa we were at 7 degrees Saturday morning and got up into the 60's yesterday….Roller coastering here in T-Town!

Wife and I have been looking hard at NW Arkansas to Branson area for retirement in a few years. The Ozark mountain areas are beautiful, 4 seasons, tons of hiking and outdoor fun, and prices seem to be reasonable.

All our time in NWA has been on the Buffalo river and surrounding area. Amazing canoeing, but I've never been anywhere with as much poison ivy as I've seen on the trails in that area. Is it that bad all over NWA or is that just a Buffalo river thing?

Tornados depend a lot on where in north Arkansas you are. In the Ozarks, the risk is pretty low because tornados hate elevation changes. I read that the last tornado in our area was in the 70s…and it was a very brief EF1. Compared to Rogers, who had an EF4 last year I believe.

It might get above 90 in July and August, but it feels very different, in a good way. I don't remember ever thinking "it is too damn hot to be outside", like I do in Houston 2-3 months out of the year.

The bigger trees are my one detractor to anywhere east. Can't stand tall trees. That will keep me planted firmly in the hill country forever. Haha

and now you have newly named bass species to chase with the Neosho bass and potentially a little river species. Also there is a great podcast "Ozark" that has incredible local guests with hunting and fishing advice / stories for the area. Has a 4 part series on the Neosho bass

White is an amazing trout river - we make an annual trip up there and it never disappoints. August is perfect as the river temp provides a level of A/C while you fishing
