Have an oppoturnity to get on a place in Falls County. Anyone have experience hunting in the area? Sounds like some decent deer but ducks are the bigger selling point in late season. Proximity is appleaing but would it be too much of a shock coming form S. Texas?

We have shot a nice 5 1/2 yo 140, 10 point on one of our farms in western Milam county this season.
There is normally around 6 to 8 bucks and roughly 20 does at our feeders every hunt in Milam..
Hugh plowed fields with large thick pecan bottoms.

We shot a mature 5 1/2 yo 133, 9 point on our farm in Falls county, Westphalia area.
Normally see 2 or 3 bucks, younger 6 to 8 points and 5 to 6 does every hunt in Falls county.

We have both Hill Country and West Texas ranches, but we kill our best mature bucks
on our farms in Falls and Miam counties. Hunting pressure is less and they have better food sources.

But we only shoot deer that are 5 1/2 yo that will score in the 130's to 140 range.
We are not meat hunters and have no desire to shoot a 3 1/2 yo 8 point.
Additionally, we may only take 1 buck per 500+ acres.

The location in proximity to Reagan will probably make a big difference for deer. East of Hwy 6 will be better than the West side. Bird hunting was always great there (dove, quail before fire ants, ducks). Should be ample hogs to hunt as well. But, it will not come close to comparing to South Texas.

Pictures of bucks on our Falls & Milam County farms.

Rules:
1. Don't shoot them while their young and letting them grow into a mature buck.
2. Arrest every poacher. We have annual meetings with our local game wardens.
-- They have free access to all of our land
3. We shoot every coyote and hog that we see.
4. When buck to doe ratios get out of hand - Biologist tells us how many does to shoot.
