Hey All,

I need a shed for storage on some property. Probably 30x20.... Anybody have experience with the metal sheds that you see selling along the road? Some look pretty cool like a mini barn, etc

I'm hesitant to build anything permanent since the land may be sold or broken into lots. I haven't priced those sheds vs having someone build one.

Any advice?

I'll add that I don't need a concrete floor I'll just do gravel.

Is securing items a concern? Could just get a smaller sea crate that locks up nice and tight. Not as pretty, but they do the job.

Thats a good idea. It locks up, I can run power to it. Lights and maybe a window unit

I bought two metal sheds from Carolina Carport. They were nice gable ended with closed gable ends and closed sides but open ends. I opted for upgrade on the gauge and cross members.
I constructed a good road base pad for them to sit on and anchor to.
They have been here on the ranch going on six years. They have been through hail and bad wind and storms and have had 14" or more of snow on the roofs with no issues.
I have been very happy and impressed with them. The installers were great and did an outstanding job also.
The sizes were 20' wide by 30' long. High enough on the end gable cross piece to get my skid steer under so tip of the roof is about 14-15'.

Boat racing is like beautiful women……..expensive, high maintenance, but well worth the fun!

Seem more than a few hunters convert them into hunting cabins. For the AC, have a recessed wall on the end that opens and put the AC there, so when you close the doors, it all locks up tight and it keeps the bugs off the unit.

You can go pretty far down the rabbit hole with them. I've seen them as hunting cabins with septic tanks, gravity-fed water reservoirs, showers/toilets, and nice living spaces. One guy had French doors on the side with a nice awning over it and a few TVs for games.

Or go the other route and keep it completely nondescript and innocuous. Recess the AC units, it looks like any old container dumped in the middle of nowhere that might be less inviting to thieves (if this is a concern).

Great idea for the ac. Just found a local guy that sells and customizes. Thanks!

I had a friend buy a container cabin from XCaliber Container https://www.xcalibercontainer.com/

They did a nice job, the floor plan was 2 bedrooms (one on each end) with the kitchen, living and bathroom in the middle. Door was in the middle. I know, not what you are looking for.

Located in Graham, but I think they have several locations. They can customize as much or as little as you want. My friend has since sold the property, but he liked working with them. Bought the cabin and three other containers. One full size to store 4 wheelers and a side by side. Two other smaller ones for storage and had a connecting roof for a rain catch and additional covered parking.

I have a different friend who bought one for storage and had it wired for electric. He painted the roof to lower the temps inside.

I have no affiliation with XCaliber. I just know they have lots of options

When my friends were doing this a few years ago, there were fewer options. There are multiple container and container customizers (basic, rustic or fancy) around the Great State of Texas. If you need something that is solid, water proof and varmint proof, they seem like a good option if the size limits/configuration works for you. Once again, no affiliation.

Just a heads up, a lot of taxing districts are starting to treat the containers just like permanent structures if that matters to you.

You could probably find a good way to build a lean-to off one side for more covered space.
