I expect most here are big fans of the outdoors and a shared passion exhibited by Teddy Roosevelt. Earlier this this week I was holed up after a canceled flight and overnighted in Dickinson ND. Shared a cab to the hotel with an engineer working on this project. Sounds really cool. Can't wait to get up to the badlands and check it out later this summer.

Does Medora even have enough people to staff something this big?

Just finished reading "The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt". Maybe the 4th time I've read it over the last 20 years or so.

Far and away one of the best reads ever. Covers him from infancy to learning of McKinley's death.
I feel so much better since about 11 a.m. CT on 20 Jan. 2025

it really wasn't a thing until after FDR, i think in the 50s is when act was passed to formalize the libraries

Every U.S. president since Herbert Hoover has a dedicated presidential library administered by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), totaling 14, from Hoover through Obama, along with a digital library for Donald Trump. Libraries exist for Herbert Hoover, FDR, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush 41, Clinton, Bush 43, and Obama

FDR was the initial Presidential Library but Hoover was still alive, dying in 1964. Felt entitled to have his own Presidential Library and why not.

If you have not read it, read The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt by Edmund Morris.

Even if you don't like to read, I promise, you'll enjoy it. His life was fascinating.

It's part of a 3-part biography; this one detailing the life of Teddy, from birth to his election as POTUS. It's astounding how much he accomplished in his life, and what he accomplished when he put his mind to it.

Sounds like a good stop for a day before their pheasant season opens Oct 10. South Dakota season opens Oct 17. I've always wanted to stay long enough to hunt both openers. Love the Dakotas in October.

Medora is awesome. The Rough Rider hotel is pretty good. Worth a trip up there to see the TR National Parks (North Unit being my favorite).

1000 Internet points to the person who can tell the class, without Google, what college campus houses the Ulysses Grant Presidential Library. If you don't know, you will get a shock.

Wife and I have visited several Presidential Libraries and homes. Have enjoyed them, and make a point of seeking them out on trips.

Libraries:
GHW Bush
LBJ
Truman
Eisenhower

Homes:
LBJ
Truman
Eisenhower
Jefferson
Washington

We also accidentally visited the home of the Vice President of the Confederacy. Another 1000 Internet points to anyone who can name him.

Our family stayed at the Americinn which worked for three of us. North Unit is better but both are nice. Not epic but I enjoyed the short trip. We allocated 1 full day for each unit. I enjoyed the food we had as well - though it was nothing fancy. Nice little town. A coworker's wife is named after Medora.
