TLDR; I put a wood stock on a gun.

One of my time and money wastes is collecting certain firearms. I recently picked this up, but it was the "all weather" version. That means plastic stock. I didn't like it but I knew that when I bought it and thought it would be a fun project. Fast forward I found a guy that had a takeoff stock. It did require some minor fitting and I had to bed the trigger gaurs to get the mag to close. This is a two piece bottom metal and everything has to be lined up. Theninletting was a hair too deep. So, I bedded it at the right depth and it's good. The bolt was rubbing on the inletting there as well so I took a rotary tool and shaved off a little bit and then flattened with a file.

Now, this is a NEW version of this stock so it is not what would have come in this rifle if it had been ordered with walnut. It's got a square shoulder instead of the double slanted like the sporter classics. Otherwise, it dropped in. Someone had bedded their previous rifle and it fit this one close enough.

Anyway, it's not original, unfortunately don't have the red recoil pad, but screw it. It's a hunter and it doesn't hurt to have the Pachmayer on this old .30-06.

This is also a BOSS version. Value on these is not what a NON BOSS would be. They are ugly and many folks just don't like the look. I don't care and the system works very well. Plus, I don't have one and now I do.

So here it is…with 100% more walnut.nevermind the smudges, I didn't get all of the Renaissance wax off I guess.

Only thing I don't love is the rear sling stud being black. I have a stainless one, but this one is mounted well and very secure and I just don't want to back it out for a color swap. I may put the black fore end stud back so they match. I was just playing with looks.

As someone once told me "screw resale value, this is the F150 of firearms." lol.

Great looking rifle! I did something similar with a Browning A-bolt stainless stalker (also .30-06). I bought a wood stock made for a model known as the Eurobolt and had it installed by a gunsmith (needed some work to make it fit properly, and I didn't want to screw it up). Wooden stocks on stainless actions look great, IMO.

If it's not an Agrams creation it's not OB material.

Cool. I always lusted over a white gold medallion as a younger guy.

Me too. Those are beautiful rifles. The fit and finish and function of them is a cut above.

Have a story about a Browning White Gold Medallion.
So in 2006 or about, I went to the Shot Show with the man that used to own a little gun store in Junction. Browning had a limited production White Gold Medallion with an Octagon barrel in 25-06. It was a beautiful rifle. I had him get it for me to give to my wife for our 30th wedding anniversary.
Put a matching Leupold polished aluminum scope on it to boot. Man it was one pretty rifle.
Broke in the barrel with factory ammo and it wouldn't group worth a damn. I figured I just needed to hand load for it and it would be ok.
That started the journey of multiple bullet types and hand loads, replacing the scope, replacing rings, pulling the action and barrel out of the stock and checking for bedding issues and mounting……all to no avail.
Damn thing literally would not group smaller than 2" at 100 yards and no consistency at all.
The dealer contacted his Browning rep and the guy called me and told me to ship it back to Browning. I did that. Two weeks, four weeks, eight weeks passed with no answers from Browning. The rep finally called me and said it was determined that the barrel rifleing was not machined correctly….but they could not make me another barrel because it was a limited run. They said they couldn't send me another like rifle in any caliber/cartridge because they were all sold…..so they said they would exchange me in the same $$$ for any other rifle or shotgun they had.
I told them I really wanted a Gold Medallion Octagon barrel like we had because of it being special for my wife. They made no attempt to find one in the field or accommodate me on the Medallion except offering a trade for like dollars. I then just asked for my money back and I would go down the road….. they refused to do that. . So I ended up with a Maxus shotgun and a regular A-bolt in 25-06 out of the deal. Got them in and promptly sold them…..and bought my wife a Sako in 280 AI.

Oof. That really sucks. That is disappointing to hear. Looks like they have them on their website right now as a limited production. Is it a regular annual thing? I've wanted a Model 70 Supergrade in Maple for a long time but I'm afraid to take something like that into the field. I am always afraid to send in a rifle.I don't think they'll send it back if it's faulty and that bugs me. I'm like you in that I'd want the same thing back. If I wanted a different rifle, then I would have bought one.

I've been happy with my Sakos . Even my Tikka T3 rifles are nice shooters…and those were 500 bucks brand new on clearance WITH WALNUT…..so, I can understand the frustration of paying way more and having problems.

Ive only had to send one browning back and that was for a friend for the duratouch or whatever the rubber coating is that turned into a gummy mess. They swapped out the parts with new parts that…look like they'll do the same in 25 years.

Yes sir. I've always liked Browning for sure. Got some rolling blocks and SA-22's in my collection and all my shotguns are Browning….Golden Clays and Citoris. That was a disappointing experience for sure.
