Been waiting a long time to ask the OB this question. Staff, give me a break as this is the only trustworthy board for this. Daughter is officially heading to Aggieland in the fall.

Looking for church recommendations in and around B/CS to start visiting between now and then. Just drop a name and whatever plug you want to put and we'll do the legwork. We currently attend an independent Baptist Church in Wise Co.

This is the single most important item on our list to get nailed down between now and August.

I'm Catholic, so I am contractually obligated to say St. Mary's, which is the biggest Catholic Campus Ministry in the USA (and the world I think).

Still - there are lots of churches. Anything else that would apply for what she wants? Size? Theology? Focus on students? Etc?

Fair enough. lol.

From a theological perspective without speaking a debate…. Salvation by faith through grace. Baptism is an outward expression of said faith. Doctrinally sound on biblical truth and teaching from it to help her continue growing spiritually. Ministries for her to get involved in to help win folks to the Lord. Big or small doesn't matter. Not a social gathering. Just a solid biblically rooted church.

My wife and I attend Restoration Church Bryan and love it. It's like most churches in BCS with a large number of students and has a great college ministry. Pastor is Jonathan Brooks (class of '02 I think?), he's a solid Bible teacher. We generally preach through books of the Bible verse by verse/passage by passage, we're currently in 1 Samuel.

I'm not Baptist, but my kids went to First Baptist in Bryan and I attended with them when I visited. I really liked it. Good number of students, but plenty of other demographics, too - which was something I appreciated as I think young folks need to be exposed to the wisdom of their elders.

Grace Southwood is fantastic.

When we are in BCS on a weekend, it's our church away from home.

Thankfully, you've got a lot of great options. I'd take a look at Central, Grace (4 campuses in town), and Declaration.

Baptist family here. I joined at Central back in the late 80s when I was in school - it was that much of a home for me. My daughter tried several churches when she went to school and fell in love with Grace. She's moved back to BCS and is a member there. Great Christian community there; you'll find the one for you.

My daughter, class of '10 went to Central. Was fantastic for her.
She became a Christian missionary overseas in China after graduating, Central sponsored her. She decided to become very fluent in Mandarin, reads writes and speaks it - just to be a better missionary. She has incredible stories from living with Chinese in remote areas.
Also met her husband at Central, a good Christian man. They got married after her final year as a missionary & now live in College Station. I have several good friends that attend Central.

We attend FBC Bryan. They also have an outstanding College Life focused program. I'm amazed at how many young college age men & women attend services. We just hired a new, dedicated College pastor.

We attended the Charlie Kirk memorial on campus. Turning Point is very active.

Best wishes !

I can't help you on guiding you to a church in
BCS. I will just say "good dad" to you giving her a firm foundation of finding and believing in our Lord and Jesus….and that she wants to grow her faith as she begins her college days.

First Presbyterian in Bryan supported our work in Zambia. It's a good church. My last time there was to attend the funeral of Murray Milford. It was packed.

There are quite a few on here that attend Christ Church. It started as Methodist, but moved to more nondenominational. Their School for Little People is amazing and would be a great place for a college kid to become active in. My son and a few OBers send their young kids here.

The Contemporary Services has a great mix of people. Awesome community of people in BCS. I feel like half of Texags attends.

Although I've never been to Restoration Church, I am all in on Jonathan Brooks. He was my oldest son's youth pastor way back in the day and as solid of a person as I've ever known.

Coincidentally, Executive Pastor Matt Ullrich is the son of a couple who I go to church with now.

Central. Email or call them and Speak with Phillip, Daniel or Patrick McGinty. Patrick is the College Minister.

Their contacts are almost all the way down on this page.

The Independent Baptist Church that you currently attend; How many regularly attend Sunday service, Wednesday night service/Bible study, etc. so we can get an idea of the current environment that she attends in Wise Co.? Have you asked your current pastor at the church you attend? Pray to God for guidance. Your pastor may already have close brothers in the ministry that He has built a relationship with over the years through Pastors Conferences, Revivals, Summer Camps, Seminary, etc. Is your Independent Baptist Church a KJV only campus?

We as parents need to focus more on what you are thinking about before we send them off to college. Her spiritual growth & connecting with fellow believers, Bible studies, learning & sharing the word of God with others is critical in this world we live in today. I commend you on your concern and being a spiritual leader for your family, Amen Brother

My son is a freshman and a member of Mosaic Baptist Church. I met the pastor at a conference this past week, and definitely recommend the church. It is a smaller church and very focused on discipling. They are starting a new campus ministry this fall, called Camo (Campus Movement), which also looks really solid. I spent some time with the Camo leader at the same conference, and gladly recommend their ministry.

I can also add to the recommendations for Restoration Church in Bryan. Jonathan Brooks is an old friend and a faithful pastor.
Also New Life Baptist. I went to seminary with their pastor, Allen Duty, and a good friend was an elder there till he moved out of town.

Reformed University Fellowship is another great campus ministry to consider.

Also receiving votes: Central Baptist, Westminster Presbyterian (obviously a little outside your mentioned church circle, but they care about faithful preaching and teaching)

I attended FBC Bryan when I was in college there and our four Aggie children have all either attended (up to graduation) or are attending there currently. They love the Sr. Pastor - Jim Heiligman, the variety of services (Contemporary & Traditional w/ a choir), the robust college ministry (have bible studies during the week, and large group worship on Sunday nights), the Student Adoption Ministry, and the mission-mindedness of the church. It is a strong Bible believing and Bible teaching church and is truly multi-generational. My wife & I love the church as well and attend there as many as 15 Sundays a year (it is our church home away from home). I am happy to answer any questions you have.

I am a Methodist preacher's son. When I was a fish, I started at A&M Methodist located at North gate. I quickly found the Wesley Foundation directly across the street. I started attending Sunday morning worship there. It is predominately college students. I felt more comfortable. The vibe of worship was stronger for me there. They also had a covered dish meal followed by vespers on Sunday evening. This was a welcome retreat from the corps dorms on a Sunday evening.

Congrats on your daughter starting at Aggieland.
Good luck on finding a church for her to call HOME!

I've been at Restoration for a while and have seen it explode. Jonathan is a great teacher, but where he really shines is his care for people and that permeates through the church. If she decides to check it out don't let her be intimidated by the crowds. She needs to get involved in a missionary community group, there are options for college only and intergenerational ones. That's the way to get plugged in at Restoration.

I was always partial to St Thomas Aquinas as a graduate student. Even got married there. It's a really rich town for kids of all faiths to find a community.

What an encouraging thread. I'm glad to see so many great options and everyone being so open handed with their recommendations.

I went to Grace 20 years ago and volunteered as a high school leader. The guy who ran youth at that time (Zack Nigliazzo) is now the campus pastor at Anderson. The teaching pastor at Southwood (Jacob Smith) was one of my kids. They are both high character and doing great ministry.

I think being plugged into a local church is really valuable for a college student. I also think there is a place for campus ministries to build community. This could come from a sorority bible study or other group. She will have a ton of options. Also, spending a summer working at one of the great Christian camps (Pine Cove, Ozark, T Bar M, Cho Yeh, Laity, many others) is a excellent way to grow and meet people.

Christ Church (formerly Christ United Methodist Church) split from the United Methodist Church two years ago. They are now part of the Global Methodist Church. Global leadership is conservative; United is liberal). It's a large church with lots of opportunities

Come visit St Silouan Orthodox Church. It will be different from what you are used to, but this is an amazing community built on Christ and living the faith.

https://www.stsilouanbcs.com/

Also, more specifically there is a very activity campus ministry, Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) that meets multiple times a week for Bible studies, on campus prayer services at All faiths chapel, men's and women's groups, etc.

https://ocf.net/campusmissionaries/tamu/

I think your awesome parents for making a priority of seeking out a faith home!
