Just curious of you all that have one….How happy are you with it?

The convenience of it is really nice. Set it up and let it do its thing. When I have the time, I prefer a traditional offset.

Have had a Traeger Ironwood 650 for about three years. Cook on it at least 3 days a week, sometimes more.
Been really happy with it. No problems ever.
Had the more basic model before that for about three years as well. No problems with it either. Gave it to my nephew and bought the 650.
In typical OB MO you are going to get comments on 50 other brands….you know that right?

Boat racing is like beautiful women……..expensive, high maintenance, but well worth the fun!

lol I didn't think about that but yes I probably will!

Quick question have you ever used a smoke tube with yours? You probably have the super smoke function on your model and I don't.

Yes sir. I do have the super smoke function.
I have used the smoke tubes when I'm doing brisket, ribs for extra. Very easy to use. I light mine with a small propane torch and it works great.
For normal cooking like burgers, steaks, salmon, pork chops etc the super smoke does fine.
Now in mine it won't super smoke above 225 degrees so I will cook a bit at 220 to get the good smoke then run the temp up to what I need to finish.

Treager at home. Because setting /monitoring/adjusting temp remotely and never worrying about reloading fuel/wood enables you to go do lots of other things and run errands, not be home all day while still doing a long low and slow cook.

Offset at the land. Because I can source oak and pecan wood myself from my own property and playing with fire is fun.

Recently did research in advance of buying small grill. Traeger came out as one of top two in my evaluations but decided on RecTeq.
Think both are good

Well it's the same smoke that's coming out of pellets on the super smoke setting.
I've done it with a stick burner and smoke tube. I can tell no taste difference and smoke line looks almost the same.

My Traeger cooks a great smoked turkey…very flavorful and juicy. It's super easy to use, just set the grill temp and probe temp on the app and you are good to go.

Mine is a Zgrills and not a Traeger, but I love my pellet smoker. It's so easy to use, and everything turns out amazing. I have my wife convinced it takes monitoring so I can sit in the garage and drink beer. People think I'm a magician with a smoker and all I do is turn it on and set the temperature. 10/10 would pellet grill again. I don't even have a propane anymore.

I've been having great luck with the Kirkland (costco) pellets

Thanks and thanks for the pellet info…Lol on the beer in the garage…I have a nice patio so that is where beer and whiskey are consumed and cigars!

I have (and love) the Masterbuilt gravity fed smoker. It uses charcoal instead of pellets. I believe it gets hotter and does smoke better, and have the option of adding wood chunks for long cooks. Might be something to look into. The drawbacks are, I believe it's harder to start up, usually takes about 10 minutes but I've never had a pellet grill.

I knew there was something off about you.

I'm also a RecTeq fan. And I don't shoot a 6.5 creedmoor.

long time offset user here. Still refuse to use a pellet smoker for traditional bbq (brisket, ribs, pork etc)

But man oh man, i got one for smoking our sausage, snack sticks, & jerky we make from our deer harvest and its a game changer. Being able to dial in at 130 and slowly bump up to 180 F with a push of a button is REALLY nice.

I got a pit boss upright model and I love it for what I use it for.

I gave my stick burner to a friend years ago and joined the dark side. No ragerts naw mean?

It's nice to set and forget and as others have mentioned, do something besides tend a fire for the duration of the cook.

Done it both ways , conventional and pellet smoker. Pellet smoker is so much easier to get the end product your'e after . I had a Pit Boss and now a Traeger. Temp control and temp consistency across the pit is better on the Traeger .

He made that comment because some folks use smoke tubes with pellet grills/Traegers to enhance the amount of smoke for their particular taste.
I've cooked a lot on Traegers for 6-7 years and for 90% of the time they generate plenty of smoke for my cooks without using smoke tubes or chips.
I only use the smoke tubes or even chips for long cooks on brisket and ribs for a heavier smoke. I heavy smoke for two or three hours then return to normal for the rest of the cook.
Friend of mine never uses the smoke tubes and his stuff taste tremendous always.
