Need a gun safe moved from one residence to another. It's about 25 miles distance. It's a large gun safe. Unsure of the dimensions or weight. No stairs are involved. Just thresholds. What would be a fair price to get this done?

Lotsa luck with that. Maybe hire two guys and a truck. I hired a friend who brought a truckload of"exchange students" most likely. Cost me $50.
Problem is, do you really want some of those mover folks off Craigslist and such, knowing you have a gun safe? That was my dilemma.

Call a good reputable local gun dealer that sells safes. They will know good people to move it.

As Gunny said, call a safe moving company/retailer. Most of the ones I have used I would expect the cost to be up to and maybe over $500.

Welcome sir. I had to move one from my FIL house to another. Nagel's gun shop hooked me up.

I was quoted $721. I need it done in 2 days. Don't know if I'll find one cheaper to do on short noticed. I only knew about the safe 90minutes ago

Try asking some fellow brothers at your church, we help each other out all the time with things like this.
Brothers helping brothers,

I have a small trailer if you are located near Bellville or Bryan/College Station.

I don't know where you are, but another one I know does it is, Whitley's Safe and Lock.

Gun store told me who I could call. Guys showed up and delivered mine in a nice professional manner.

(I told the guys that moved mine into the basement that I'd call them when I moved. They told me not to....sell it with the house and buy a new one!)

Compare the cost of movers versus renting a truck with a lift gate and renting a pallet jack (Home Depot). I watched one guy deliver the largest Browning safe using a lift gate and pallet jack and learned a lesson. Got a great deal on the largest Liberty safe last year and it was on the truck and off the truck in no time.

If you're in BCS, Griffin Locksmith in Bryan does safe moving. I had them move two safes for me, one of which is a 1600 lb Graffunder. That was 10 years ago, so I have no idea how much they would charge now, or if they would be available on short notice.

FYI, once they get moved inside, you can move really big safes on 1.25" pvc pipe rollers.
My wife and I moved two Fort Knox around in our last house.

I've had 2 guns safes delivered (they picked up from my purchase location in Katy) to my house and moved it into my house, then drilled and bolted them to the floor. This was on 2 separate occasions several years apart. I live 40 Min from Katy. I think the cost for each move was basically about $600-700 ea. Well worth the price when you consider they picked them up. Those suckers are heavy and a PITA to move.

Don't remember who it was anymore but I got their contact info from where I purchased the safes from.

In July of 2023, I had Moore's Security (Houston) move my safe about 3 miles to my new house for $350.

I paid $250 for stronger dudes than me to move it from my driveway to inside of the house

It was a $350 surcharge when I moved houses

I got a heavy one though, 800lbs dry.

I bought it off texasbowhunter used for $500 so it's been worth the moving costs. A good safe, new, is a lot of dough

Yep. They are surprisingly easy to move. I've moved mine a couple of times, used some Harbor Freight furniture dollies. Built ramps for the thresholds out of some scrap 2x4's and plywood. Me and a buddy of mine did it with relative ease and neither one of us were in our prime when I moved back.

Delivery company put it in my garage with a pallet jack. A buddy came over and we used pvc to get it on a furniture dolly. Then made a ramp with 2x6's to get in the house. Took about 30 minutes total. Getting it in and out of a truck complicates this a little bit, but as suggested above rent something with a lift gate. It can be done with a couple people. I completely understand if you don't want to DIY and hire it out though.

I hired two guys from my gym to help me move mine. Paid for a months membership for both of them & it was a hell of a lot cheaper than hiring movers.

I was also out of state, and in a state that didn't exactly cotton to my kind and some of the things in said gunsafe.
So, they were cool and I trusted them. Gotta be careful who you give that kind of info to.

There is a group in DFW called The Safe Guys.

Cost $150 to unload from the truck and position inside. Not sure the cost for city to city

Old Dominion charged $500 from Browning to my house.
You can't fix stupid.

If you get friends, don't let them roll it on golf balls. Plenty of stories of broken kneecaps where the golf ball got "pinched" and shot out like a cannon. Use PVC pipe pieces instead. Used to sell safes. PVC works well.

I had 1.25" Sch. 40 PVC break with a large safe. I use oak dowels.

My safe is 1800 pounds empty.

I moved it with closet rods and Teflon slides by myself. That is to say moved it around the house.

When I moved it from one house to another I hired a company. They brought two giant linebackers that dug their finger nails in and moved it.

They basically had plywood to spread the load and a very low purpose built skateboard with about 20 lil wheels... and then also some Teflon slides and dowels. Also some purpose built leverage tools like big crowbars with flat edge wide feet to get under and wedge up a corner.

They made it look easy and noone got smashed. If i remember right it was about $500 for a 15 mile move. They had a big enclosed trailer with an overhead rail and winch to get it up and in.
