Our weeds are going nuts with this mild February, was going to hit the backyard with Weed and Feed but is it too early? Novice lawn care owner but have a 10,000 SF backyard I want to try and really clean up this year. Mix of San Augustine in the front half and Bermuda/San Aug/all kinds of random weedy grasses in the back half right now.

Amen, Brother!
I have followed that schedule for years.
My yard shows it.

I also time my weekly mowing height adjustment to be on its highest setting by Memorial Day weekend. I leave it at that height until October. Once the temps start to cool down, I will gradually start to lower cutting height.

Last weekend. Nitrogen and potash, some Bermuda seed to try and fill in some holes.

The greatest tribute we can pay Randy Lemmon is to have that schedule in our garage or shop and follow it religiously every year.

RIP Randy.

We have the watch.

Not until a measurable rain is in the forecast! Looks like maybe toward the end of the week.

Put the preemergent weed killer yesterday. Fertilize in 2 weeks or so. I'm
Probably 2 weeks behind where I should be.

I might give up this year. Been following that schedule forever but my front yard is possessed by demons. Two small oak trees don't make it easier. Had a large area re-sodded and it died too.

Treated for chinch bugs, fertilized, sprinkler system checked and calibrated. Still grass dies

Last week. Appears I'm a couple weeks behind normal schedule due to higher than normal temps.

I go off my lantanas. When they start budding out it's it time to fertilize.

No lantanas in my yard, but my azaleas started blooming. Last week.

I did pre-emergent and fertilizer about a week ago. I'm wondering if I was a bit late on the pre-emergent.
Zoysia front yard.
St. Augustine in back.

Azaleas are looking better than ever.

I haven't seen many summer annuals emerging yet. You should be fine.

Same.

It's frustrating. Especially after I spent a lot of money resodding the yard a couple years ago. The back yard is generally fine because it gets a lot more direct sun but the front has 2 smallish oak trees that really cause problems.

May be too hot already for preemergent, but its go time for fertilizer. Hit mine a few weeks ago before the rain. Has greened up nicely.

I have an old yard that does not get that thick. Going to aerate and put down 1 to 1/2 inch of topsoil/compost mix. I think over the years I have lost some topsoil. Need to build it up for the roots and compost for some nutrients. probably should add a 1/4 inch every year.

Aeration every year is probably the best thing we could all do.

Georgetown here. Put preemergent and bifen down two weeks ago, and just put down fertilizer on Sunday.

OP- Don't use weed and feed. Rarely do those two treatments coincide. I think you've missed the boat for pre-emerg. Make it easy on yourself. More pre-emerg on june 1. Fertilize end of March/beginning of april.

For us first-timers here, assume you lay down the first round of fertilizer before the herbicide? If so, what's the timing difference there?
