Kill me now. Wife was gifted a Mexican Plum, Japanese maple and a Magnolia. Of all the gods why the seven hells was she gifted trees. I have no clue about trees, other than they grow and die. So now, she's taken upon herself to have me dig holes and plant trees this weekend.

Question one: where to plant these trees.
Question two: how deep do I dig a hole
Question three: Care and maintenance for these young trees till they take root.
Question four: Is divorce cheaper than a murder charge.

Any advice will help.
Can't decide if I want to be cute and cuddly, or go blow some sh*t up.

you can make wine with the fruit from that plum tree if you protect the fruit from birds, squirrels, coons, etc.

Question 1:
Mexican Plum - Can take sun or shade, gets 15-20' tall, blooms nice. Nice trees.
Japanese Maple - make sure it has all day shade or it will burn. What variety/cultivar is it?
Magnolia - If standard variety (not dwarf) give it lots of room. They are messy so keep away from a pool. Plant at least 20' away from house, more if possible. Very dense shade when full grown, so plan around it accordingly.

Question 2:
Dig the hole slightly more shallow (1" approx) than the depth of the pot, the tree will settle.

Question 3:
You may need to stake them for the first year depending upon how large they are.
Mulch over the root ball, but make sure the mulch doesn't get on the trunk or it will cause it to rot.
Watering will depend upon the size of the tree & your soil. Any more details you can give us?

Japanese maples are usually small, oriental trees. More like bushes. Throw the magnolia away. They stink and make a lot of trash. I second what oh no said about plums, especially squirrels.

All cool trees. Magnolia trees can be beautiful….especially when they bloom.

This is all the info I have, what I said above and the fact my wife woke me up out of a dead sleep to inform me about her trees. The trees are about 3 and 1/2 feet tall and are in plastic planters. Other than that, no idea what they look like or condition they are in. Hopefully the wife will send me pics and I can post them on here. She wanted to tear down the Bradford tree and I said I refuse to tear down a tree to plant a tree. I am not committing tree murder on a healthy tree, unless its a pine tree, hate pine trees.

Up here where I live they consider Bradford Pears a scourge of the Ozarks. Some goober brought them in for ornamental trees and now they are invasive of the forest.
But they like pine trees … go figure.

My folks are in the Pacific NW and they say the same thing. They grow like weeds, break and snap at the smallest storm, and are prolific.

Bradford Pears are crap trees. I'd tear it out and replace it. I did just that at my first home and replaced it with a Shumard Red Oak.

Step 1 - dig holes
Step 2 - place trees
Step 3 - fertilize rootball with Tordon RTU
Step 4 - Backfill dirt and act shocked when they all die.

(Don't do this if you actually want the trees to live)

Just be sure the root cap is a couple inches above the normal ground level.

Only advice I would give, is find out where your water and sewer lines are, if your insurance town, and make sure you DON'T plant near them, unless you like water breaks from roots pushing on the lines and roots in your sewer line that you have to remove.

In town, not insurance.

Bradfords are the bane of the tree world. Do everyone a favor and rid it from existence. Their halfbreed spawn are from hell and spreading all over the country, displacing our native flora. Cut it down.
