Looking for some comfortable, light weight hiking/fishing style pants. TBH I want straight leg and no cargo pockets. Something I can wear everyday around in the fall and spring and mild winter days as an alt option to jeans.

Thanks

I like Wrangler all terrain cargo pants. I know you said no cargos, but they are not the typical style of cargos with the big pockets. Just a small zipper on the side of the pants. Which I don't even use. I thought they wouldn't hold up well because they're pretty light weight. But I've put them through a lot over several years, and they've held up well.

WTF happened to just wearing jeans?! Good grief. And what happened to the red-blooded American man?!?!

120 degrees outside?! I'm wearing blue jeans.

-20 degrees outside?! I'm wearing blue jeans.

If I ever find myself, as a grown ass adult male, asking an internet message board "what kind of pants should I wear for normal weather" may God himself smite me down

I joke

I wear King's Camo in solids with other brands of tops. King's preacher pants are really good.
They are very comfortable and durable.

It really can't be an OB thread if there is an excellent $30 option that is cast aside for a $100+ option.

Never used Wrangler Terrain, but those would be my first choice, frankly. I used Wrangler 13MWZ jeans and their Riggs work wear and I am very happy with them. No reason for me to doubt the build quality.

LL Bean cresta hiking pants are my favorite for outdoor work.

Jeans, sure. For comfort and tear or water resistance there are better options. You can wear your suit pants, but those have some pretty obvious limitations. My favorite for comfort and durability is the Kiuiu Attack Pant. Kuhl has some great hiking pants you will appreciate when it gets hot. Free Fly makes fabulous comfort pants for fishing I wear through bow season but they get their ass kicked on ranch work weekends.

I've never worn the Wrangler ATG pants but I love their shirts.

I got a pair of Eddie Bauer pants in the fashion you described used from a second hand shop that I used religiously on backpacking, hiking, and hunting trips, and for everyday use for about 10 years before they finally blew out on me. I got a couple of new pairs now that I like almost as much.

They are on sale on Amazon for $50 right now. I think the style is called "Rainier"

Coming from someone who has paid his bills growing cotton and whose research crosses into the textile side of the industry on occasion:

Jeans are great. Denim is great.

Unless it's humid or you expect to get wet in any way. Or you're working in thorns or with anything that might catch and tear like sheet metal. Or if it's a cold morning and you forgot long underwear. Or if you need pants that stretch or breathe in any way.

I love jeans

But the "bib-less overalls" made of indigo died heavy twill that we all love were invented in The West (California IIRC) for drier climates. Sometimes what works best is something else.

I won't wear plastic pants though.

Had to Google that. California sounds right

Kuhl or kuiu

Both are really well engineered with technical materials. Will last you many years.

And these are the Academy version of the Wrangler ATGs.

https://www.academy.com/p/magellan-outdoors-mens-hickory-canyon-stretch-woven-cargo-pants?

They have a couple of others that are similar but more costly.

Its what I wear while hunting unless its really cold, but way more comfortable than jeans or cotton pants when in a layout blind, Aframe, etc.

I have a couple pairs of the wrangler cargos. I like them because I don't like the standard cargo style with the flap back pockets and the billowing flap cargo pockets.

They do shed water, but are thin.

If I need something more rugged I have some tactical pants from Propper and 5.11. They have multiple styles that are not overly "tacticool" and just look like pants but more functional the your standard khaki pants.

I don't really like jeans. That's just me.

Bought a pair of these to hunt in and ended up wearing them to the office instead. Added a couple more pairs in different colors.

I also have a couple of the wrangler AT pants. I like them for hiking and camping. A bit heavier than fishing pants but still light weight and comfortable and relative quick drying.

Prana stretch Zion are exactly what you are asking for. I've had two pairs for 5+ years and they are great. Got both on Ebay for a fraction of retail.

I have a pair of the Brion, which is what they used to call the the non-cargo pocket version. I don't even remember when I bought them but it has to be over 10 years ago. They have been my go-to rock climbing and cool weather hiking pant for all of that time and still look good enough for occasional office wear.

I really like the kuiu kutana stretch woven for hiking. I dont know how they'd be fishing. Same as wranglers, they have pockets but they're not "cargo pants" by any stretch

Spent most of my career in a hot production environment and wore jeans through it all. Hated how heavy and wet they would get when you were sweated down but wouldn't be caught in anything else.

After getting a few pair of synthetic "hunting" pants for elk hunting , I really noticed a difference. Found the wranglers at Walmart and now I don't wear jeans for working in the yard or everyday wear kicking around the house. The jeans are for going to dinner and out. And the Wranglers aren't different than the name brands except you can buy 3+ pair for price one of the brand names.
