The WC is a great place, we enjoy it often. But not exactly historic, or iconic

I like Gruene and Swiss alp as much as the next man but I'd rather be at the Western Club. What are the ten?

Anhalt Hall is an engineering marvel, huge, and in great shape. The wooden dancefloor is one of the best.

Boy I have a few memories there! Opened this thread to see if it was included.

Been there done that...... I've got a book called Dance Halls and Last Calls by Geronimo Trevino that lists and talks about 116 dance halls from the Texas hill country south to the Corpus area over to west of Houston. I've been to 42 of them.....we were dancin dudes back in the day.....it has London Hall listed

I grew up going to Schroeder hall. Saw many a great concert there. The parents of a girl in my graduating class were co-owners of Schroeder Hall at the time. Roger Creager held a private concert for our class the night we graduated. Pour one out for SH.

Henry's Hideout has to be in the top 10....nothing like the horniest place in Texas

Was at there at the last night of it's existence as a true dance hall.
Same with the Hall of Fame.

When was that? Had no idea it had closed

I think the only one that I've been to is Coupland (and Hall of Fame, rest in peace).

New Year's Eve 2023

Was raised in northern Karnes County in the Gillett area and there were numerous dancehalls around us that we frequented as teens. Cestohowa, Kosciusko, Panna Maria, Hobson, Poth, Nordheim, Gruenau, Garfield, Schroeder, Cotton Patch, Weid, Lindenau, Turner outside of Cuero, Lubianski in St Hedwig, KC hall in La Vernia. We followed The Customs, The Moods of Country Music, The Reidel Brothers, The Metheny Bros. The farthest we ever went was to Moravian Hall on the south west side of Corpus to see Al Dean and His Allstars. The big problem with the first 5 was that was a predominately Polish settled area and during Lent the parents made their daughters give up dancing, so the pickings were slim to none...

Metheny Brothers? I think they were San Antonio based. Several great TX dancehall favorites..Can't get more honkytonk than "Wearin' A Label"..

How about the Armadillo Ballroom outside of Brazoria?

No longer there but the Wishing Well Club in Pearsall saw a lot of greats come through it.

Dime Box SPJST was the sh** on NYE

Wild Wednesdays at Texas Grand Ballroom in Giddings was always a good time through the summer

And then waiting for Willie to walk through the crowd at 11:30 to hand out MIPs. Those from the area know what I'm talking about. He was a close friend of our family, and may he rest in peace.
