I am headed there next week with the family and we will be doing a day of fishing. I was wondering if anyone brought any of the meat home, and what was the most successful method.

Thanks

We had our hotel freeze the fish and then we packed the frozen fish in a cheap cooler and filled the dead space with wadded up newspapers. It was still frozen, but just starting to thaw on the edges we arrived home. This was the middle of summer and it sat on the tarmac for a pretty good while.

Thanks thats what I had anticipated

Also, if we catch just a few mahi then we will just eat them there, but if we get into tuna, etc. I have some freezer space available.

We use a guy at the marina to filet, vacuum seal, and freeze everything for us. We pick it up the morning of our flight, put it in a backpack cooler, stuff a couple of old towels in with it, and carry it on the plane. No issues whatsoever!

Good luck…it's a blast!

Rtic or yeti backpack cooler works as a carry on. Fill the dead space with your dirty clothes. You can carry on frozen water bottles, just tell them when you stuff it thru the xray machine.

You shouldn't have a problem with the above. Will still be frozen solid when you get home. I've travelled with a few small frozen filets in a carry on bag and was still fine 3 hours later.

They usually have waxed boxes with foil insulation that holds 50 lbs. of fish and keeps it frozen until you get home. You can check it in at the airport as checked baggage. Did this with tuna.

Flew some home yesterday. Froze fish and water bottles. Put in a cooler and duct tape shut. Checked as a regular bag. Left around 7AM and got home at 5PM still frozen no problem
