Have next Friday off and totally forgot that I do and wondering what the fishing has been like in the subject line areas. Anybody have any recent reports? Very unlikely that I get down but a man can dream....
I offer up for the OB..... my best rendition of a Houston Chronicle Fishing Report.
Aransas Bay: fishing has been poor to excellent in zero to 12 ft of water on topwaters, suspending lures, jig tails, and gulp, as well as live and dead bait fished from a popping cork, on the bottom, or free lined while wade fishing, anchored, drifting, and fishing from piers has been producing lately.
That takes me back. I used to love reading Shannon Tompkins and Joe Doggett in the Chronicle. Moved from Houston to Austin many moons ago and hadn't thought of those guys or the reports in the Chronicle in a long time. Also used to occasionally listen to one of the AM radio stations where guys would call in and give reports, talk fishing. Good times!
I fished in a tournament in Rockport last weekend. Most everyone either lives there or fishes there most weekends. 30 boats. 4 people weighed in… 26 boats got blanked (me included). Even trying live bait and SGrems beloved Trout Support lures couldn't help me. My fishing partner was a 6 year old so I wasn't fishing super hard.
Fresh water from last weeks rains making its way down. Big slugs of freshwater displacing the fish.
Im in Galveston/Freeport area. Fishing was great! Then got purdy tough two fridays ago. Even the shrimpers weren't catching live baits. One in ten bait shops had any bait. Last Wednesday we did not catch a keeper.... all smalls. It is just now turning back around. Fished tournaments Friday and Saturday and it is finally picking back up.
