"I'd say Texas A&M's growth is one of the big factors. I think our quality of life here in this city has developed over the last several decades and has established us as a good place to live, a good place to raise families," said College Station Mayor John Nichols.

And it's not just College Station that's seeing rapid growth, KBTX met with the City of Bryan who says they have grown by about 2.4 % every year in the last 70 years. The city of Bryan has a current population of around 90,000 and is estimated to grow to 150,000- 160,000 in the next 25 years.

I think 25 years is conservative for the numbers estimated for both cities. The supergrowth is comin.

I remember flying in and out of CLL in the 90's. No security, no secured area, gates were downstairs and you walked out on the tarmac to board the turboprop. There was no flight attendant. The pilot played a tape with the safety announcements while taxiing for takeoff. You went through security when you arrived in Houston (after a shuttle bus ride from the parking spot to the terminal).

Three questions…

1. Where is it going to grow? At least for CS, growth to the south will be severely limited by CSISD's lack of footprint. Pretty sure folks won't want their kids bussed to Navasota.

2. What economy is going to support all that growth? The super secret chip factory?

3. What are we doing to get out in front of this growth? The longer I-14 and I-214 loop are delayed, the more mess is going to add up. (See Austin 80s-90s vs. now)

Navasota is in the early stages of building a new elementary near Milican in conjunction with a developer who's putting in a new subdivision. Navasota has also done a good job of improving their district over the past few years. The junior high and high school would still be a long way away and a deterrent, but I'm not so sure that CSISD's borders are that growth prohibitive.

Great that they're thinking ahead. With Houston continuing to push up 290 and CS pushing south, they have a lot to look forward to in the coming decades.

Let's just hope they don't take a page from CSISD and decide to bus the kids in town to Millican and vice versa.

This exactly!

CS doesn't have much room for growth. To east of 6? Can't grow south, west is difficult, COB has already annexed land out east…

Umm, the math ain't mathing in this article.

If CS is to grow by 27% in 25 years, the population would be 165,100…. Not 207k.

177.8% growth in the next 50 years puts CS at 361,140.

It sounds like "Let's buy a vacant anchor store" math.
