Interesting…. So the county builds the road with an infamous contractor. Then the CoCS annexed it to get around Grimes challenges to the new dump via ETJ. Now the CoCS gets to pay for a new road…… at least they got a different contractor.

Sounds about right.
Although we can all agree that stretch of road is awful.

No doubt. Original contractor barred from TxDOT contracts according to what I have been told .

That whole stretch of Fitch to 30 and then 30 to the dump is terrible. The number of garbage and large contractor dump trailers that is hammering that stretch is wreaking havoc on it. The Navasota River bridge literally has exposed rebar showing through the top of the concrete.

How about the stretch of road from Fitch down south rock prairie where Williams Creek, new phase of Pebble, and Lick Creek Crossing are all the way past Lick Creek Park.

Well putting the city dump in Grimes county has come back to bite the CoCS in the butt, hasn't it.

where should it have gone then? Now if the CoCS didn't expect or plan for fixing roads to the dump then that's poor planning.

Well somewhere on the west side of a long two-lane bridge across the Navasota, would have been a good place to look.

Somewhat unrelated, but the western half of Fitch was built to be a controlled access freeway, with the current roadway serving as feeder roads. I don't think we'll ever see that happen though, similar to the Harvey Mitchell Parkway situation.

Well that's not really a location is it? So let me ask again, where in Brazos county would you have put it?

Its in a fine location, if the cities didn't make plans for the maintenance of the infrastructure resulting from the increased traffic, then that is on the leadership of both cities.

I would say the real issue here is that CoCS annexed that road specifically for the dump, so now the road issues are theirs, not the County - who originally built the road. Unintended consequences of a chess move made long ago.

Did the citizens and landowners in Grimes county, think it's "a fine location", for Brazos county trash?
ETJ's extending beyond county lines seems a lot like "government with no representation".

Interesting. Hopefully the funds used to fix the roads can come from the budget that isn't being used due to no tipping fees for either city...

No. Grimes Co was fighting it until the ETJ extension made their case weak. Then they settled for a tipping fee to the county rather than spend money on legal action unlikely to prevail.

Poor planning on CoCS's part?! Nooooo. Next you'll tell me they want to build ballparks next to the old dump without soil surveys.

Or that they'll buy part of Post Oak mall for well above market value!

I am reminded by the wife every time we go down that stretch of road how much it sucks and is in need of repair.

And I hear it a lot because we live down that road. It's awful and something is going to have to be done eventually.

If the exposed rebar on the surface concerns you, you should get on the river and look at the structure from the bottom. If my memory serves me that bridge was built in the 50's.
I can only imagine what our costs for garbage service would be if that bridge failed.

"Structural Evaluation: 5: Somewhat better than minimum adequacy to tolerate being left in place as is."

That's a significant reason why we didn't buy in King Oaks. Between the issues with Hwy 30 and then the narrow and unlevel county road to King Oaks, its a huge negative for me.

King oaks is also terrible because it's a 2.5 mile road to the front of the neighborhood.

Navasota River bridge? Yowzers. Haven't been that way in a year or two. How recent are those photos?

The Navasota bridge has been closed at least once, and I think several times, while they get out for emergency repairs that seem to be cutting off rebar sticking up.

I took these in February 2024 when I was stopped on the bridge for a wreck and shared them with the TxDot office in Navasota. The lady I talked to said the bridge is regularly inspected and there are no issues warranting repair. It's been this way for at least a couple of years, if not longer. I'm sure it was fine from 1957 - whenever they started running hundreds of garage trucks and those huge trash semi trailers across it every day.
