Well, you can bet, if I'm bidding on it, the cost to renovate it is going to be subtracted from whatever I might have wanted to bid.

I'm wondering if there haven't been any bids? Would seem like the city would want some kind of positive press (given recent events) if there were any.

I have to disagree a little bit

They city will sell for a mil and spend 5-6 mil on the remediation and rebuild

Just my opinion. And who knows if I will be right or wrong .

From what I heard no bids were given after they looked

Thats all I am saying because I am repeating something with no knowledge of the situation because I habe not seen it or the reports of the inside

I would not expect any in a dying mall for 100,000+ SF.. Investors normally need some assurances of positive cash flow.

In the Northgate thread, I suggested that it becomes the new Dillard's building (after extensive inside and outside renovations) with the existing Dillard's (the womens/kids one) becoming an indoor entertainment district, solving the Macy's question and the Northgate question at once.

This is Kramer, with the plan to renovate the rotating restaurant in NYC, that he doesn't own.

It's a better idea than any we've heard from the city.
Trump will fix it.

Is the Mall across the street from a campus with 70,000 students and another 25,000 employees?

Per Councilman Mark Smith on WTAW this morning, "...basically got no response..." to their request for proposals.

I get the concerns with the Northgate lot that have been discussed extensively, but this is the reason I want it sold. I don't trust the city to do anything properly with that piece of land. Hopefully Oldham Goodwin comes through assuming there is a new request for bids process for the Northgate lot. The Macy's property will continue to be an albatross around the city and taxpayers neck.

I don't believe so - I think Nichols was the only current member remaining that was part of that decision.

Someone please correct me if my memory is faulty. I want to say Macy's sold sometime around the summer/fall of 2022?

September 1, 2022.

The College Station city council unanimously approved spending $7.3 million dollars from the general fund to buy the former Macy's store and adjoining parking.
The vote followed recommendations from city manager Bryan Woods and chief economic development officer Natalie Ruiz to acquire the building to control future development of the property.
The council heard from two opponents during a public hearing. That was followed by comments in support from council members Linda Harvell and Dennis Maloney.
Woods said the city appraised the value of the land, depending on its eventual use, of between $6.5 and $11.5 million dollars.
That is after the current owner bought the property last January for $3.5 million.
the city's purchase includes the two story, 103,000 square foot building and 7.64 acres of land.

Click HERE to read and download the purchase contract, provided by the city of College Station.

If Bryan Woods city manager and chief economic development officer Natalie Ruiz are still employed, they should be fired for incompetance.

This is at least the 3rd time I know of them doing this.

Some private landowners got rich/sweetheart deals from the City of College Station.

and yes, Bryan Woods is still there.

Bryan Woods C Overview
Bryan Woods C in 2023 was employed at City of College Station and had an annual salary of $314,964 according to public records. This salary was 467 percent higher than the average and 494 percent higher than the median salary in City of College Station.
Public records show Bryan Woods C working for City of College Station from 2018 to 2023. From 2018 to 2023 Bryan Woods C held job of City Manager.
In year 2023 Bryan Woods's salary was 72 percent higher than average City Manager salary in the state of Texas.

Above is all from either city of College Station website or public information since he's a govt employee. So $314,000 in 2023... so likely much higher now.

And 72% higher than average City Manager Salary in state of texas.

Be nice if there was some accountability with City Employees... if you someone in private industry makes a $7 million dollar mistake, they are gone pretty quickly.

Natalie Ruiz no longer works for the city. I believe she is a consultant of some kind. She actually presented as part of the Capstone presentation at the board meeting advocating for the sale of the Northgate lot to them.

It's not only a loss of 3.5 million $, but also the loss of interest on that money going forward, a loss of property tax revenues, and a carrying cost of a few thousand in Mall monthly fee, cost of maintenance and CHVAC which appears to be going for many more years. What a cluster......
