And CSISD follows suit with same phrase:

Due to icy road conditions in certain areas in and around the B/CS area, all CSISD schools will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22. This decision was made out of an abundance of caution, considering a significant portion of our employees live outside of CSISD boundaries.
With freezing temperature expected tonight through late Wednesday morning, we are anticipating icy road conditions to make travel difficult for those employees traveling from outside the district, impacting our ability to adequately staff bus routes and classrooms. A delayed start would not alleviate these challenges, as many of these employees would need to report to work while road conditions may be unsafe.
Thank you for your understanding as we prioritize the safety of our staff and students. We will resume normal school operations on Thursday, Jan. 23. Please stay safe and warm!

you would have to try pretty hard to find any moisture out there right now. And the low for tonight has gone up 5 degrees to 21.

Sounds like some make up days in their future.

Weird. There won't be anything on the roads tomorrow. I'm out and about right now and it's pretty much dry

Covid created the convenient excuse to half arse anything, out of an abundance of caution.

Well I can see if they're worried moisture on the roads will refreeze making for hazardous conditions. You don't want buses out there sliding off the road.
have you been outside? there is no moisture on roads

My only guess is they cancelled due to number of students who Live in rural areas and/ or on dirt roads that could be wet and refreeze overnight

According to the release, they're worried about moisture outside the area. Too many employees driving in from where the roads are bad, looks like.
Trump will fix it.

Honestly, this is the reason….lots of folks live outside of the two cities and travel into work. If they live east of here they got more precipitation. You can't think about it just as those that live here inside the city limits.

Also, if 10% of your student population can't make it in, it makes a serious impact on the schools attendance which is directly related to State funding.

IDK. If they had school and somebody slid off the road in a wreck, people would gripe about how they don't consider the safety of the students. Seems like if someone is going to complain anyway, may as well go the safe route.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Roads were perfect by noon for sure should have had a late start today and full day tomorrow. No reason to cancel tomorrow.

Whenever you read "this decision was made out of an abundance of caution", you know that the writers of the decision knew that it was nonsense and couldn't justify it with any sound and rationale logic.

Caution - indicates you are taking reasonable measures. "Out of an abundance" - you are reacting unreasonably, acknowledge the unreasonable actions, but still do it because you are ????????

They all did it after the public schools. It kinda forces their hand. Just like public schools get their hand forced by TAMU.

My kids went to St. Joseph. They always follow whatever Bryan ISD does. It was included in their handbook.

The TV news said all the area schools are closed Wed due to the cold.

Most days don't necessarily need to be made up anymore. The state requires each district set 75,600 minutes for instruction and almost all districts schedule more than the required for this very reason. HTH.

As stated earlier there are are a considerable amount of district employees who do not live in B/CS and drive in daily on roads that are not near as well maintained as our city roads. I was expecting to be at work today also, but I also don't have the knowledge or care to know when you may not be able to attend your work, on something out of your hands.

Then allow those small percentage of employees to take a sick day and use a substitute teacher. All of the roads in Brazos county should be fine. It was almost 40 degrees, sunny and windy which helps dry up any moisture.

So what about the busses of kids traveling those same roads? I think the real point is you don't have nearly enough information to call closing today ridiculous. Bryan ISD has a significant number of rural roads to travel by bus and I very seriously doubt you know what those roads look like. Their decision has zero to do with Texas Ave and everything to do with the far edge of the county.

Did they call today too early? Maybe. But you're on here criticizing closing yesterday and saying they should have just opened late which looks like hindsight at best. There were forecasts calling for 3" or more of snow and had that happened then yesterday and today would have been warranted. From their perspective it's better to make a decision early than to make the community wait. This way everyone can plan accordingly.

Yes we do and did. There was no credible forecast anywhere Iphone, weather.com, kbtx.com, theeagle.com that had any additional precipitation and a drive over any of the roads anywhere in Brazos County after noon yesterday would give you all the information one would possibly need.

KBTX story says that Bryan ISD cancelled because it was too cold for the kids who walk to school.

That sets a precedent that will be hard to walk back whenever temps drop below freezing.
