Think it'll be slammed? Or do the kids go south and leave it alone?

We are looking for a destination for a Sun-Mon overnight spot. There's an Airstream themed rental close by that looks like fun, but if Krause Springs will have approximately 10 bajillion 20-somethings in it, I'll pass.

I suspect everywhere around there will be overwhelmed with people.

We are flying to Vieques, PR which is a small island that is not touristy and is very laid back.

Not sure that place is a spring break hot bed. I went there several times and there was literally nobody there. call them and ask.

Not for long if you keep telling people where you're going.

If you have been to Vieques, it's not a brag.

It's just somewhere where there is are people. Besides, with points the air and lodging is free.

Not worried about traveling. My brother who lived with us and is a retired Army Ranger is very good with a shotgun.

Have known about this area for a while, and I do agree with your assessment. Hopefully will remain relatively undiscovered.

Since flying to a Caribbean Island isn't on the menu for our overnight getaway, we decided to try Canyon of the Eagles and we will also hike to Gorman Falls.

Get some food, some vino, and look at trees.

Don't know if it'll be open those nights but the observatory is awesome. The Austin Astronomical Society used to host star parties out there and ~20ish amateura would also bring their equipment and you could just walk around checking out planets and galaxies and what not. That's a nice facility up there whether you're able to do that or just enjoy the area.

We went there a long time ago and loved it, but the hotel got destroyed in a hurricane a few years later. Where is a good place to stay now?

Canyon of the Eagles was really nice, and the first night we stayed we practically had the whole place to ourselves. Even Monday night there were only a couple families and 3-4 older couples that showed up. It was quiet which we enjoyed.

The Observatory was awesome! Highly recommend.

Other fun things to note. The hike to Gorman falls is three miles of trying to not break your ankles. Lots of loose rock everywhere.

The hike up to the Eagle Lookout at the resort is only 0.7 miles, but it's almost straight up at the end. Like steeper than a staircase, straight up a Hillside..

First went there in 1979 to do a plant resouce study of the Navy lands on Camp Garcia. I like it because there are no resorts or major chain restaurants or other businesses. The locals would fight anything that would try to start there. If you want congested tourist islands, go to St. Thomas.

The best upscale lodging is probably El Blok about a 100 yards from the beach in Esperanza. We like to stay at the various rental homes within a block of the El Melacon, the restaurant strip.

If you like the high end lodging and bars, Vieques is not your place to go...go to St. Thomas.
