look at Stella's FB page - the Banger Burger is coming to Stella - and Stella is staying open until 3pmcarodz said:
This makes me legitimately sad but I get it. I will sincerely miss that place so much. I really hope we can get the banger burger at Stella in the future.
They have switched to beef tallow in their fryers, as well. Makes better tasting fried foods, and it is much healthier than seed oils.Kbeauty63 said:look at Stella's FB page - the Banger Burger is coming to Stella - and Stella is staying open until 3pmcarodz said:

That is great news. Fries taste so much better in beef tallow.Rex Racer said:They have switched to beef tallow in their fryers, as well. PS3D said:It opened in 1998. Tax records and newspaper archives support this. There was an Early Bird Cleaners and Aggieland Printing in a small building next to El Chico; this building was demolished for H-E-B (both moved to a new building in H-E-B's parking lot, though both have since closed).Belton Ag said:
I keep seeing the reference to 1998, was that the year the family bought the business, or the year it opened?
I moved here in 1996 and my first apartment was a couple blocks behind there at Anderson and Park Place. I distinctly remember going there to wash clothes and drink beer within the first few weeks of moving here when the laundry room at my apartment building was shut down for some reason. It stuck with me because of my amusement that a bar was attached to a washeteria.
I guess it could be a case of misremembering.
I know that some people like to claim a business was "founded" when they bought it (and no, despite the film, McDonald's is not the most notorious example) but Harvey Washbanger's wasn't one of them. I'm surprised it has been consistent ownership, seems their menu changed often.
That sounds familiar. I had totally forgotten about that.Belton Ag said:PS3D said:It opened in 1998. Tax records and newspaper archives support this. Going back to this. I talked with my roommate at the time and he also remembers this building having a washeteria and bar in it. He remembers the name having the word suds in it. Like "Suds and…"
I'm curious to remember what was in that building because both of us remember a washeteria and beer joint. He graduated and moved away before 1998.
I'm pretty sure it was something in between for a short time.trouble said:
It was an Italian place before it was Washbangers. I don't remember anything in between.

I lived here then and can't remember anything else.
I would just put a food truck next to the Stella cafe and have the burgers and such cooked there and they can be served into the restaurant or for takeout.trouble said:
I've heard they are adding the Banger Burger but I don't know about the rest.
