Today I heard about this Beatles show that will include a full orchestra or something along those lines. It is pricey if you are not a student but I'm gonna go anyway.

It sounds promising. I'm just wondering why I didn't hear anything about it until two days before. The OPAS shows I always hear about. This, not any real advanced notice.

Dang I would go to this if I wasn't driving back from Austin on Sunday. That is a pretty big price differential between student and non but I'm sure it will be great.

Going to a rather lavish wedding Saturday night and don't see myself coming back in prime condition but we'll see what happens so I can count this as my first concert of 2025!

Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra.
I have heard ads in the radio, but not sure they have a big advertising budget.

MS150 won't be finished until 6pm. Plan to get here earlier to deal with the traffic

That's a good point.

Just came back from Aggie softball and MS150 was not impacting traffic much at all.

We are season ticket holders to the Brazos Valley Symphony and it is worth the price of admission alone. They also do a great job in complementing visiting artists in concerts like these. The players are all professionals and if you think of how many orchestral elements are part of classic Beatles tunes you can understand how unique and full a concert experience this will be.

I already had plans and couldn't make it.

Had I heard anything about more than two days out, that could have been different.

It was a very good, fun show, especially for those of us of that generation. Sorry if you were not able to see it.

How was attendance?

We've been to most of the BVSO symphonies this season and I would say it was pretty well attended. It was amazing! I felt like I was in the 60's listening to the Beatles. They looked like, sounded like, and talked like the Beatles. The orchestra added so much depth to their music and songs. I wish I could have recorded some of it just to show friends. I was amazed.

Man. Disappointed I had to miss it.

Maybe they will do it again!

Any of the "bands" that the BVSO brings in are typically the best of the bunch of whatever band they are impersonating. I mixed the audio for Queen and Abba. I wasn't available for this one.

BVSO doesn't mess around with their guest musicians.

About 15 years ago or so there was "Rain", the Beatles tribute band at Rudder/MSC OPAS.

BVSO (Brazos Valey Symphony Orchestra) is the local Orchestra and they perform themselves.

OPAS (Opera & Performing Arts Society) is the organization that brings in shows to Rudder.

While that is true, the BVSO promotes their own concerts with guest musicians all the time. Sometimes those musicians are a cover band like Abba, Queen, the Beatles, etc, etc.

OPAS is an independent group that promotes shows that are held in Rudder (both the Aud and the Theatre) and these have nothing to do with the BVSO. The OPAS events can be anything from a world music band to an off-Broadway play, to children's theater.

Source: I worked at Rudder for 8 years and still get called to sound engineer some of the BVSO shows that happen in there.

New World, Serenade to Music, Cirque, Brazil's Best, and the Classical Mystery Tour are all shows that feature guest musicians or groups.

Here you go. This was a BVSO event. OPAS wasn't involved at all.

Yes, Dr. Bussiki goes to lots of out of town shows and scouts talent to bring these shows to the BVSO. He's a very talented director and you can see it in his shows.

I was a little disappointed the attendance wasn't better for such a good show. It was maybe 3/4's full in the bottom section. I couldn't see good up in the balcony, but from what I could see, I'm not sure anyone was up there. It was too big of a crowd for the theater though. Brazos Valley folks are really missing out if they don't attend BVSO events!
