We can't say enough good things about Morgan. Always quick to show up, reasonable pricing. They service our house and all our rentals. Just last week went to my in-laws after another big name showed up and quoted them like $18k for a replacement. Morgan charged the coils and ordered a replacement. Replaced our unit at rental recently.

BCS Air Solutions is another great company.

Highly recommend. Intelligent and experienced. Does not waste time and does superior work.

I almost want my AC to break again so I can call him. (just kidding)

Maddielou...your recommendation is rock solid.

I know a guy that put mine in for about 1/3 the cost of what the locals wanted to charge me. He showed me the wholesale price and marked it up 1-2 thousand on each unit for installation. I had to work around his shedule but he saved me a ton.

The extra cost is to guarantee/warranty your purchase. The markup is the cost of doing the job right and then standing by that job. You also want to limit the hassles after the sale.

I am always surprised that people will not think twice about taking out insurance, but will balk when a reliable company charges more but guarantees their work.

He filled out the warranty information for me online at my house.
It's his business.
He just does some on the side.
I also signed up for a bi-yearly maintenance program with his business.
If I lose 1-2 of them in the next 10-20 years, I'll still be waaaaaaay ahead. Tranes aren't cheap.

No big secret. Just a contractor that works with a friend that builds houses in Houston. I gave him the specs on the quotes from the local guys which was around 30k+ for a new 4-ton unit. So, he sent me the url to similar units. Then he explained that I didn't really need the Ferrari (which I kinda figured because my old unit did not have the same ratings as the Ferrari). I got a 3.5-ton Trane installed for around 1/3 that with the same ratings as my old unit. We had a couple issues when we finally needed it a week or two later and he walked me through what to do on the phone because he couldn't make it for a couple days. Again, not ideal but nothing I couldn't handle. Not everybody is comfortable with that (as doubledog mentioned) but I already had portable units in the main rooms and was not under any time crunch because the weather was fine.

Again, not a shot at the locals. Just another way to skin a cat.

Some of us have the benefit of knowing what other markets are charging for the same job. I was quoted $17,000 plus for a 2 ton 2 stage carrier unit by the locals. Got the job done for less than $9000 which is inline with other markets. Are you saying it's worth an additional $8000 for someone to stand by their work? I don't spend $50,000 on warranty to insure my $50,000 car

I would recommend Steven Bobinger with Total Comfort Air. He currently maintains my home and has moved/installed units for me. Very honest and dependable. Can't recommend him enough.

Absolutely agree with this. Steven is the best; I originally got him from a TexAgs recommendation and have appreciated his honesty and professionalism. I let him come and go in my house unattended, too. Great guy.
