How long do you want to ignore this user?
I need some 'who to call' advice. I need to open two password protected devices, legitimately due to a death. Estate Executor will handle all of the details but I am doing leg work to find some sources. Ideas? Thank you.

Once the legal paperwork is done, Avinext might be able to do that.

If it's Apple products, you'll need documentation from the court that you are authorized. Then they can unlock it for you.

Not sure of other company's policies.

For the PC, if it is not encrypted you can remove the hard drive and just put it in a dock attached to your computer.

Many thanks for the responses. I knew this would be a good place to start. You never know if you will have a tomorrow and it is so so important to leave passwords somewhere secure (safety deposit box?) especially if your financial life is on line.

Apple allows you to set a Legacy Contact who will have access to your stuff after death. Something to consider if using Apple devices.

A friend recommended the book/audiobook In Case You Get Hit By a Bus, to prepare family to get access to important things after death. I've started listening to it. I think I'd prefer the book so that I could look through the suggestions visually. The content seems good so far, but since I've had recent deaths in the family, it's tough to listen to right now.

unless your next of kin is on the safety deposit box sig card, its more difficult to get into a box than breaking into a phone.

Everyone should have an instruction sheet that I label "In case of my demise" that people can access, Passwords, stocks, bonds, bank account #s, safe deposit box key, investments, etc.

One real example. I was searching the Texas Unclaimed Property site and found that my friend's father had three stock certificates, a safe deposit box, and about $17,000 worth of unclaimed checks....all were years old and my friend had no knowledge of them at all,

If you use Google at all you can sign up for Google death (inactive account manager). You can set a delay and if your account is not accessed it will send you ypur credentials at an alternative address. If you dont access before the next expiration it sends your credentials to a trusted contact. With this and a docs or keep set of files in theory your relatives can gain access. Also make sure your trusted contact is not someone that might likely be with you when the bus hits are the accident happens.

i guess you should check it every few months, i can see someone hacking accounts and being the trusted contact for a few hundred thousand persons,

Good feature, but if they can hack it, they might be also able to disable the notifications, Does the reminder give you the name of the trusted contact?

It gives you a link to review all your data. But I don't see your nefarious strategy. If you hack the account credentials why would you wait potentially decades to leverage your potential access. You have access, you have it now, what do you gain by waiting.
