Our yard was devasted by wild hog the last 2 nights. This old man need some help/advice on how to deal with this both from an animal control aspect as well as repairing massive damage to our yard. I simply cannot deal with it from a physical standpoint. Located just south of CS.

Unfortunately, I think fencing them out is the only 100% method. Trapping is only somewhat effective.

I've had decent luck repairing damage with a drag behind my lawnmower. I made mine out of a piece of scrap bar grating.

Drop Gate Trapping is a local BCS trapper that can set up a catch pen and remove them for you.

If they're coming by consistently then maybe call some friends with thermals to shoot them.

I'm so sorry, I remember how truly shocked we were when we saw the damage to our yard the first time. We had to fence our property and get some fill to level out the damage. They sell all sorts of repellent online, but there's not really a guaranteed way to keep them out unless you fence. But you could maybe buy yourself some time before you get moving on a fence with repellent. Good luck

These motion alarms work well. I use them in my food plots that I grow for duck hunting. Going to be your easiest and cheapest solution.

If you do decide on a fence, electric fence is very effective on them. Can just be a single strand down low. Pretty easy to put up and not terribly expensive. Might need someone to drive the ground rod.

In my experience, the large groups tend to be pretty nomadic. I know they recently hit some yards in Nantucket but seemed to move along pretty quickly.

Good chance you could do nothing and never have another problem. Scare them off one good time and they'll find an easier target. So most likely no need to mess with a fence.

There is a helicopter that goes out almost every week that shoots groups of them. Sometimes even with a mini gun. hopefully they get the group they got your place.

Dry weather brings them to either river and creek banks with sandy soil or into irrigated areas on GC and subdivisions. Wet weather leads them to be in areas with harder soils and away from development (as much). Will get better if we get some fall rains.

We have 3 strand electric, and the hogs go through it like nothing. Doesn't phase them at all. We keep corn in a deer feeder in the back of our property, amd it at east keeps them out of our yard and pond. We are over run here in the north part of the county. Will see 20+ nightly on games cams. The only effective way we have found is deleting them from existence- which we do multiple times a week.

I have a specific hatred for hogs right now, as im in a rental while my car is in the shop having 4.5k in damage repaired after hitting one on OSR about 2 weeks ago.

Treating for grubs helps but the only way to keep them out is some kind of physical barrier. A lot of people got hit in the area recently and the majority of those that I've talked to dug around and none found grubs, but quite a few people found a lot of earthworms.

Cameras that alert, guns, hog fencing. That's all I got for ya.

I successfully kept hogs out of disked & planted ground for years. Winter oats, summer haygrazer.
Hog sounders in my area were typically 30-50 pigs.

Buy a High Joule electric charger, at least 12 joules.
I recommend Cyclops made in USA.
Expensive, but they work.

Avoid chargers at TSC, CooP etc, those are 3 Joules and are for domesticated livestock.

Use Gallagher braided string with wire. Two strands 12 & 24 inches. Wire strand works, string-wire is easier.

Get a dedicated copper ground rod at least 4 foot long and keep the soil wet. About a 5 gallon bucket of water once a week in this drought.

You can tee post the corners and use step in plastic posts inbetween. Gallagher make easy to use Tposts insulators.

Also get a Gallagher clip on flashing light that blinks on charger pulses, lets you know fence is on.

Avoid inexpensive chargers. Also some chargers (Gallagher solar) ramp back output at night when Livestock sleep. Thus get a Cyclops.

Warning the high joule chargers really hurt if you touch a live wire , much worse than a standard chargers.

Shooting them doesn't stop the sounder from coming back. I killed them weekly.

The baseball net mesh circle traps that they push under really work the best. Common to catch 30 or more at a time
Our county Soil Conservation District bought two to lend out.

Poison works and it just got approved last year. Need training to buy it.

My goodness. A 12 Joule controller. Not laughing at your comments but the poor animal that gets hit by that. Just know be careful with that much energy and would not recommend for a real short fence run.

12J is more than or equal to what would be used to defibrillate a small child. I wonder how much current if transfers each shock phase?
