Wife and I staying at The George this weekend and looking for a great place to eat. Is Porters the best option? prefer something steak/seafood.

Porter's is excellent.

I concur. I'd put it above Campfire nearby, though that might do in a pinch.

Edit, Cavalry Court not Campfire!

Porter's is really good and can just walk out the hotel into Porter's. Republic is a few minute drive, but also excellent.

Porter's is a good choice. We've been 3-4 times and always had a good experience. I prefer their salt/pepper/garlic style of cooking steaks over the Republic or Christophers.

The Campfire mentioned above is actually out at the Stella.

Do make a reservation wherever you plan to go.

How do the other places cook their steaks?

Republic uses the sous vide method and get a minimal crust or char on the steak. Porter's uses direct flame on wood-fired grill. I much prefer Porter's.

We love Juanita's. I heard Coco Shrimp is amazing. The Original Chop Shop was awful; it just tasted corporate and soulless. Huge disappointment. Tiffs Treats is delicious for a sweet treat!

Republic dry/wet ages their steaks for a considerable time, as well. Christopher's menu typically has some kind of topping or sauce that detracts from the steak. All three restaurants are great, I simply prefer Porter's style.

Agreed. I like them both but Porter's gets the nod here.

Porters is definitely the better steak all else equal. However, the Republic layout/vibe/atmosphere (and BAR) is fantastic and the other dishes (sides/entrees/apps) are probably a slight step up. If you are going for best steak alone, I'd probably choose Porters. All else in, I'd give Republic a very slight lead.

If you are at the George, Porters is the choice simply because of ease. Otherwise, a tougher choice. Can't go wrong.

Get the shrimp cocktail, it is fantastic. IMO Porters steak are just OK.

I preferred the old Republic vibe to the new one which is just a tad too loud, garish, bright and more show-offy then it used to be. I understand that appeals to a lot of folk and more power to them. The atmosphere at Porter's seems a tad calmer to me, bar included.

Porter's also has a great brunch on Sunday. Jalapeno chicken & waffles are excellent.

Thank yall for the Porters rec. I will say though we left disappointed. Service was not very good. Waited over fifteen minutes for our drinks (which they made wrong), along with getting our drinks after our Caesar salad which was the weirdest Caesar I've ever ate. The sides were barely warm, and overall just not a very good experience considering the price.

I will say Mess waffles was an excellent spot for breakfast.

Sorry to hear that. That is unacceptable for the price point.

Coco shrimp is really great! We love to go and sit on the patio. You get a lot of food for the price. They do not have alcohol but you can BYOB so we bring our own wine and beer.
