Trick or Treaters?

Is trick or treating still a thing? And if so, is there a protocol beyond leaving your porch light on?

After years in an apartment we recently moved into a house in Midtown Reserve. It's a great neighborhood, and we noticed a number of families and kids playing in the afternoons on our street and surrounding streets, so prepared to welcome trick or treaters but have only seen one group of kids come by and they didn't even come to our door, even though our porch light is on. (The security camera recorded them simply walking past our driveway.)

Are we doing Halloween wrong?

We had quite a few!! Are you in the ritzy area?

If you are on Facebook, look for the Midtown Reserve group by the Kitzman's

Not sure what counts as the "ritzy area," but our place isn't fancy, and lots of "starter" homes on our street, so doubt we are. I guess next year I'll have to add some of the inflatable decorations in the front yard.

Fork and Calaveras. Over by Wallace Phillips huge house. Homes by Kaleo. However, DR Horton has upped their designs as well. Welcome to the neighborhood. Check out the Facebook group. We have a great leader who speaks out at council meetings.

Went to take care of a friend's cat over in the Eagle/Victoria area. Saw quite a few trick or treaters and parents

Left there to go pick up dessert at 1860 Italia. Took Barron to Decatur to Arrington

Lots of kids and parents walking down Decatur. In the street. And crossing the street. Whenever. In dark clothes. No flashlights or anything. And of course cars driving by with their headlights off.

It will be amazing if Rusty's page doesn't have people talking about it or a story of a kid or parent getting hit by a car.

Did see some good costumes though!

Sit outside in lawn chairs with candy. May get a bigger crowd.

Southwood Valley (Deacon/Rio Grande/Brothers) area was very busy. It's become one of my favorite holidays of the year because everyone is outside and having fun.

I love Halloween! But then again I grew up in a small town in the 70's where we'd go everywhere, and sometimes inside people's homes!

I'd recommend sitting outside and greeting the trick or treaters. Some of the young ones engaged really well on their own!

King Oaks trick or treaters rocked tonight! Decorated ATV's, flatbeds made up like parade floats. Love seeing all the kids. And they were every single one of them so polite.

I'm guessing I had 65-75 which seems high to me since I live in a culdesac. But I ran out of stuff and I had somewhere around 60-70 items and then grabbed more from inside.

We sat in our driveway this year but normally leave the light on.

I came home last night to a street full of cars and people ignoring sidewalks just walking everywhere. Then some idiot in car decided to open their door street side and never looked. I almost took his door off. Even at 10mph I would have ripped it off and him with it.

Edelweiss area was poppin. You definitely need more than just a porch light now if you're not going to sit outside because so many people have timed/automated porch lights, but lots of kids around and everyone having a great time in our area. Shoutout to the folks that had a cotton candy machine in the driveway.

We were close to pre pandemic levels over here last night. Good steady stream of them but not crazy numbers.

Had an event to attend so missed my annual dispensing of the candies. I'm sure by next Halloween the guilt will have passed.

Now that you jog my memory, I remember the cotton candy machine from when we lived in edelweiss. That was on the other side of our street, Graz/Vienna - glad to know they are still spinning that sugar!

When I was probably 8-9 years old, I could recite the ENTIRE commercial.

Where did all of the King Oaks groups even come from? I did not think there were nearly that many kids in this neighborhood so we ended up taking our kids to another neighborhood. Got back and my parents said they had at least 100 people come by.

We will stick around here next year for sure.

Also pleasantly surprised to see more King Oaks representation on Texags than I expected. If any of you want to chat, feel free to PM me.

We're in Castlegate 2 and we get hundreds or thousands of kids, many or most come from other neighborhoods.

I think the mix of upper middle-class with small lots/shorter walks between houses makes this neighborhood very popular.

My mom hung out in the driveway and gave out about $100 of candy in an hour or so.

We used to live in Castlegate, and it was always heavily trafficked by trick or treaters. Like crazy amounts.

There are quite a few families with children out here, those wanting the Iola school district I think Great kids. We may pick up a few from the houses behind the development on 175.

We buy 70-100# of candy every year and usually run out. We live on a short cul-d-sac in Tiffany Park, whole block sets up at the end of the street and we hangout. This year we had way less kids, maybe 1/4th of normal. Surprised us since Halloween was on a Friday and the kids had no school the next day.
