is this weekend - I'm not a runner but thought people needed the reminder that there will be road closures & such on Sunday.

I guess I don't have enough time to train...10-20 years ago, I could do a half marathon will little or no training. Today, I need 4-6 months.

First year since moving back that I won't be trapped during the marathon!

Good luck to all the marathoners! Often fun to see what many of them drop along the way. I've found some…interesting things in the road.

Ha, you can't even get to the marathon with the construction cutting your section off from the rest of the neighborhood.

Not that long if you take the trail through the park.

Don't know what the protocol is, regarding holding up the runners, but about 8:35, at 2818 & F&B Rd, it was ridiculous, the length of time the officers had to hold up 2818 traffic. Runners were spaced out just enough, that in both directions, easily 50-60 vehicles waited... and waited.. finally a few horns were honking. Officers were smiling, kudos to them for dealing with the headache.
When finally allowed to go, we were close to the front (northbound), very likely back of the line didn't make through.
Curious if there is a maximum time the officers are using, for traffic control.

There is no maximum time they can hold traffic. FWIW, it's a Boston qualifier. The runners will have complete right of way unless it's an emergency vehicle responding lights/siren.

I wish I'd seen this thread before we left for church this morning. We were at a standstill on Texas Ave for three traffic light cycles and I finally managed to wedge over into the left turn lane to escape it.

This. It's been 14 years for this race. You'd think there would be a better way to publicize the road closures and delays. Do they still do door to door notifications like they did in the early years? Maybe they can look for more ways to inform the public. Maybe reach out to churches to notify their congregations? Most delays are those going to church services.

But you shouldn't want to stop a potential Boston qualifier. Unless it's an emergency of course.

I ran the BCS half marathon for their first few years. My old knees won't allow it now. But I always appreciated the drivers waiting when we were crossing busy roads. Thanks CSPD and the race coordinators for keeping runners safe.

I asked about that the first year I was in my other house. No one seemed to think it was a big deal that I didn't know that I couldn't leave my street at all without moving barricades.

Runners get priority over traffic. No set time. Pretty much all races operate this way.

This race in particular is a Boston qualifier, so they don't stop the runners.

What other "sport" has carte blanche control over such a wide swath of B-CS traffic?
Runners rule??
We encountered traffic control twice, F&B & 2818, then again at west Villa Maria & 2818 exit.
I'll wager the vast majority of drivers could not care less "it's a Boston qualifier".
Maybe use the RELLIS campus for future escapades...

Football for one. Seven, nay, eight games a year for quite some time during and after a game. On Saturday afternoons and evenings. Much more disruptive than one Sunday morning a year.

Heads up, this Saturday between 200 and 500 will one of those Saturdays.

So they actually prevent people from leaving their houses? For how long? What if someone needs to go to work, catch a flight, or do something else that they deem important? You're just stuck?

They put the barricades up sometime early on Sunday morning and they stay until the race is done (sometimes until someone who lives on the street moves them). There is no one there physically barring you from leaving but you can't just plow through the runners either.

Not even remotely the same, for the areas affected...but you knew that.

One Sunday a year for a few hours on a morning and people acting like all their freedoms were taken away.

It happens every year 2nd Sunday of Dec for last 14 years. Mark your calendar now for next year.
Will likely be same route again next year

100% this.
Been basically the same course for 13 of the 14 years, so just know and plan.
Also, they don't want to wait till school is gone because you wouldn't get the college demographic staying to run.

I don't run the race, I'm not in charge of it. I'm just familiar with it and was passing along what I know about it.

Is very close to the same, just doesn't affect you directly on Saturdays. And that's what your gripe is about, how it affects you. But you knew that.

Its been going on for 14 years.

It happens on a non-football/non-graduation weekend. For a reason.

The route has been roughly the same since it started. Specifically designed to include Bryan, College Station and the Texas A&M campus. Rellis wasn't a thing when this started.

It brings in revenue from out of state and out of the country, on a weekend when hotel and restaurants typically sag.

You know how, like on football game weekends, you know to avoid Wellborn near campus? Or like, when its Graduation & Prom season so you stay out of the local resaurants? Or there is going to be a parade at on the same weekend, at the same time as all previous years? Its like that.

If you're going to be a big boy town, you will have big boy issues.

I think people understand the value to the community.

The issue is primarily with poor communication. Yes people who have lived in the affected neighborhoods for years should know about it already and should plan around it. However, it doesn't matter that the route is the same for the last 14 years to someone who just moved into the area and is cutoff because the only way to/from their house is suddenly blocked off without explanation.

It seems that the attitude that this has been around for years and the community should know already might be a significant cause of the failure to effectively communicate to residents.
