Looking for bank providing "personal touch" for elderly relative new to town.

Any suggestions? They seem unhappy with visits to the local Chase, WF, etc.

We moved everything to First Financial and Amarillo National Bank in the last few years after a string of dealings with Prosperity Bank that told me they didn't want our business.

Zero complaints. FF has a bunch of locations in town that are always friendly.

Out of 200 employees at Aggieland Credit Union/Greater Texas FCU , they literally have 1 or 2 Aggie GRADUATES working there, and NONE in Management...
They steal our name for profit only. They give peanuts our community, and only sponsor A&M athletics for advertising. They are super slow with everything they do. I would seriously not even consider them.
TAMU should yank their exception for the Aggieland Name. They pay nothing to TAMU to use it.

I would check out Brenham National Bank or First Financial for your folks.
If they can join Brazos Valley Schools CU that would also be a good one.

They used to be Texas Aggie Credit Union but changed it to Aggieland because of the licensing (when GTFCU took over) not sure what you mean by "stealing". I hope you are being hyperbolic about them only having one or two Aggies working for them because that is completely false. Egregiously false. Also, not sure what you are expecting banks or Credit Unions to do for the community other than to provide banking functions. That being said, I am sure there are better financial institutions in town and many more worse. I don't know how many locations the other local banks that have been suggested on here have but Aggieland is small enough for some personal attention and enough locations to be relatively convenient (medians not withstanding).

"Aggieland" is not trademarked, or at least it was not a decade or go when I opened a small business with Aggieland in the name. I called A&M's licensing department to verify and they told me anyone could use it.

Edit: according to the poster below, they have now trademarked it, and if so so I stand corrected.

It is, in fact trade marked and owned by Texas A&M.

Thinking back this was actually around 2010, so I guess they have trademarked it since then or I was told wrong back then. But I definitely advertised as "Aggieland __________" for many years with no issues.

I edited my post above.

I have my business account with them and the account for the non profit I am the treasurer for. It's nice to be able to just go in and talk to a person who remembers you but being a part of the bigger group, there's plenty of ATMs and such across the state

My personal stuff is there, and I've had car notes and mortgages with them over the years. I've been a member since 1991. They got sideways with me a few years back over a tax return check that was made out to me and the wife (she has her stuff elsewhere) and they didn't want to deposit it because it was made out to both of us (she endorsed it, and I had her DL). I told them that I might as well close all my accounts, and take my business elsewhere. The branch manager suddenly got involved, and made it happen.

I'm in the same boat. Tired of Prosperity and looking for something with better customer relations. I have a couple of friends who are really happy with Amarillo National, so I think I'm going to go with them. Changing banks is such a pain in the ass though.

When i was pissed off at Wells Fargo I was looking to move. Amarillo national was about as local, non DEI crap bank I could find. I was too lazy to move but if I did I'd move to them.

We've had GREAT customer service at Simmons. Every time we walk in they call out Hello Mr and Mrs ….

We've moved almost all our accounts to them.

It wasn't in 2001. That's why the RWB Out shirts said "AGGIELAND USA" with no mention of Texas A&M. A&M wouldn't approve of the use of any of their trademarked identifiers, so Aggieland was the only thing the students could use in their design.

Edited to add: It looks like A&M applied for the trademark in April of 2002.

Which is crazy because it's a dual property state.

It's clear that most of the respondents on this thread have a very broad definition of "local bank".

How many banks in town would you say fit a narrow definition of "local"?

Good question. Momentum Bank for sure. But there's been so much consolidation in the industry it's hard to find a true local. And if you do (like First National Bryan back in the day) chances are good they'll merge with a regional or national bank at some point.

Brazos County Bank. Small and local. They are part of the First National Bank of Huntsville. I switched to them a couple years ago from Aggieland Credit Union. Much easier and more responsive to deal with than Aggieland. Also better rates than Aggieland from what I've found. I had been with Aggieland since I started A&M in 93 and they got progressively worse to deal with it seems the last 10 years or so.

Not at all. There are very real advantages to using the big banks for some people. It's just a question of what you need out of a bank/credit union.
