Looking for the best dining experience in Aggieland to celebrate a life event with my wife. Not Christopher's or Republic (love em both but want something different). We are moving back to the area for the first time in 25 years and we don't usually do fine dining when in town other than the 2 above. Thanks!

-Kanji sushi (easy walk over to Stella)
-Marfa TX kitchen or Casa Do Brazil (Uncorked for nightcap)

Marfa probably the "cheapest" of the above. Congrats on your achievement! Glad you were finally able to move away from that van down by the river!

Thanks for the suggestions! I've had drinks at Porters while staying at the George and the food smelled amazing. Might try there or The Primrose Path.

If Republic and Christophers are too pedestrian for this occasion then there are only a few options,

DeBaca- I haven't been yet but hear good reports

Casa Mangiare - I've had two great meals there recently. Service is college town but food and atmosphere are as good or better than anything else in town.

Porters-I'm not a fan, to me it was all style no substance but only been once and decided that was enough.

Casa do Brasil - excellent food and a higher end experience than you might expect at Brazilian steakhouse.

Everything else is a step below but the next tier would be Napa Flats Bistro, 1860 Italia, and Marfa but personally I would pick any of these over Porters.

I concur though I've had hit-or-miss experiences at literally every place I've dined in town, zero exceptions.

I haven't tried DeBaca yet but have heard good things. Porters is nice but I'm biased having dated an employee. Casa do Brazil is very nice imo and they seem to handle event type dinners well. Maybe Elia since nobody mentioned that yet? They have the old event room that I remember Madden's using (we had quite a few work conference dinners there).

Wish I could suggest Ronin, which was used quite heavily for private events, but alas.

I hope what you find suits your needs!

Primrose is always my recommendation...incredible food and you can get a variety of it.
