It is only a $55-$119 Billion project, Musk said there are several sites under consideration........would be an unbelievable economoic shot-in-the-arm to Bryan/College Station and the entire Brazos Valley (if chosen).

The Grimes County News FB page has already declared that it would ruin everything if that chip plant came to Grimes County.

Half of them are bashing it because they think it's a data center.

SH 30 at the Navasota River is a key, flood-prone connector between College Station and Huntsville, often experiencing high water and closures in Grimes County

They will need to build a better bridge across the Navasota river on 30 to handle the traffic.

They have been working on a new bridge over Gibbons for almost 2 years and still haven't finished. Won't they have to widen that elevated berm thru the Navasota bottom before widening the actual road ?

I'd guess the roads would be completely redone before building.

The more I read about it, seems like the old Alcoa plant seems like a better fit because of the distance to the Giga Facility and the prototype Terafab facility. Any chance they are just wanting more because they already have several DCs in that area?

I guess they could. Regardless, this is the elusive "good jobs" and as they say, a rising tide lifts all boats.

Alcoa site is already under construction for a different project

Agreed. Only commented because a friend of mine is one of the contractors doing the work out there and wanted to make the distinction

A vast majority of these projects (including the one in CS) are speculative in nature, and they don't know who is going to occupy it. They wanna build them, and flip them to the highest bidder, the builder doesn't really care about what purpose.

"Guessing" both is what people thought when that big Daikin production plant was built near Waller.

It's not equally "both".

Edit: I'll add "equally" to clear up my point.

Wait...Is a semiconductor plant different than a DC? Rusty keeps calling it a DC.

A classmate from intermediate and high school works for Daiken. I need to let him know he is nothing but a visa worker if you are insinuating what I think you are insinuating.

Ok. You were looking for a chance to be sarcastic instead of having a genuine discussion.
That's what I wanted to know.

No. I just wanted you to not assume the entire place was full of foreign workers who provided no new jobs to the Waller/Cypress area.

I edited my earlier post to be more clear.

I'm not assuming what the demographics are that work there. I've been in that plant and I know people that have either worked there or still work there.

There are local people that work there, but there were a lot more visa workers hired than what Daikin originally advertised.

A strategic economic analysis by the GBP projects that the operational phase of the SpaceX facility alone will generate a total economic output exceeding $2 billion over its first ten years. That's based on the initial construction phase of $119 billion dollars…a figure that could rise to $174 billion.
The GBP's ten year forecast of SpaceX operations also shows:
  • The regional economic output driven by the facility is projected to reach over $2 billion cumulatively by 2038.
  • Local workers are projected to see a cumulative $1 billion in earnings over the first decade of operations.
  • The project scales in phases, growing to more than 2,000 regional jobs sustained by the facility's operations by year ten.
  • By 2038, the project is expected to contribute over $350 million in economic output annually to the regional economy.
