Marcelino's at the corner of Tillery and Lyons in east Austin. Line is out the door every day. They only do breakfast tacos. I like to get their carne guisada on flour... they also have an Elgin sausage and egg taco.! BOOM!

Interesting. The name "marcelinos pan y vino" has always struck me as a strange name choice for a taco shop but I've been meaning to stop in for a while.

Bill Miller's is a sad shell of its former self. It's like they saw the world around them changing, and said, "Screw it, we're going to double down and serve slop for $5.99 and they'll love us for it!"

And I say this as a native to San Antonio...

So it was really good at one point? My BIL lives in SA so I'm there occasionally, and I've never known it to be anything other than not quite Rudy's quality.

Their gallon of tea, combo plates, fried chicken, and quality of food were all positive things I remember growing up. I moved to Austin for work and would hit up the locations at 290/35 and up north near Howard Ln and 35.

My trips became less and less frequent as I realized it Rudy's was improving their quality, and Bill Miller's was declining. I haven't had their fried chicken in a LONG time, but I do recall that was awesome back in the day.

Yeah, I've never met anyone who likes bill miller bbq. But it's a great way to identify a San Antonio transplants because they defend the place like you would a cousin or sibling who is always in and out of jail.
"Oh, no, the BBQ isnt very good, but you go there for the great sweet tea and fried chicken".

Interesting stuff.

One recently opened in Cedar Park now and I've got no desire to check it out. I do need to go check out Interstellar down 620 though (from the Noble Pig guys).

No more "Noble Pig" B&M stores...except possible the airport. Honestly, I think it was smart of them to transform into a new concept.

Okay - regarding my Bill Miller's comment:

1) Yes, I am from SA.
2) I haven't been there in years. I used to go to the one on 290 frequently on the way to work when I lived in Elgin. But I moved in 2013 so it's been a while.
3) The tacos were my favorite but I like their potatoes, beans and desserts a lot too. The brisket is okay for fast food. Never tried the chicken.
4) Bill Miller's was a treat when I was a student at SAC in the mid 90s.

I like Bill Miller bacon, bean, and cheese tacos. And there's a bill miller close to the house so I probably eat them a couple time each month. I just wouldn't rank them as best in Austin.

Ah, kind of a bummer, loved their breakfast sandwiches. Will be interesting to see the new direction or if they just keep heading towards BBQ.

Losing Republic of Sandwich, and now Noble, is disappointing on the deli still sandwich front. Fortunately, Biderman's on Far West is fantastic.

It is reference to a 1940's Mexican movie about a young orphan boy that takes bread (pan) and wine (vino) to a stranger in the attic of a convent where priest and brothers are living. They kind of get tired of his aloofness, only to find him one day in the arms of a statue of Jesus that had "come down" from the cross. Even if you don't speak a word of Spanish it is worth the watch!

For a lot of Hispanic folks.. we know Marcelino's story. :-)

J and J's in Cedar Park has migas tacos and one can fill me up. Nathalies Doughnuts in Cedar Park has the best chorizo, potato and egg as well as her salsa is my favorite around here.

I was surprised how much I liked Bill Miller's tacos. We buy a lot of Taco Deli for our customers also. Personal favorite is the chopped beef and egg from Rudy but I don't eat the tortilla for the carbs.

Midas are traditionally made with carb heavy tortilla strips that have been fried before.

Go ahead and enjoy the tortilla around a taco.

Went to Veracruz at Burnet and 183 for the first time this morning. Had the El Sancho (chorizo & egg) and the Migas Originales. Sancho was just ok, but that MO was one of the finest breakfast tacos I've had. And their corn tortillas are amazing. Machine Head coffee was great.

Also, Taylor Kitsch was there, not that he had any bearing on the taco quality. It's still cool to see a celebrity around town doing normal Austin things.

Julio's is great. I have one almost once a week.

My wife like Dan's because the come out at 200 degrees it feels like

Taqueria My Tralita is very good

as is Taqueria La Canaria and Vaquero Taco

Haven't tried Dan's bfast items but their burgers are easily the best fast food hamburger in town.

Come on man - even aaron franklin says valentina's is his favorite bbq in town. Those breakfast tacos are one of the few things that get me south of downtown.

The breakfast tacos are a little heavy from Valentinas, I don't need brisket on my breakfast tacos

I think I'm with "Keeper" on this. I prefer more traditional meats on my breakfast tacos - bacon, sausage, chorizo.

That doesn't mean the brisket isn't good - I just don't want it on a breakfast taco.

I also tried a bacon, egg, cheese, potato taco. it was ok. Yes, I was completely stuffed after eating those 2 tacos...

I am quite happy with Rudy's - bacon, egg, cheese, potato, jalapeno. Their bacon is better than Valentinas - thick and crisp - and i really like having diced fresh jalapenos. Warning - breakfast is not the same at all Rudy's locations. The one on 360 (Westlake) and the one on 183 have similar breakfast setups. I've also tried Rudy's in Waco and Denton, and the breakfast was different - and not as good.
