Had 2 guys give me this line in the last 2 weeks. More than the last two years combined.

One guy...older black guy at Top Golf parking lot, I gave a few bucks. Guy last night in Randalls parking lot, smoking a cig, I said I had nothing (actually I didn't).

Wish there was a way for me to keep a half gallon of gas container in my SUV without it reeking of gas, so I could just say, "No problem, take this. Good luck!".

My jerk store response is always "ok where's your car let's take look it may not be out of gas" and they walk off every time.

Yup, common scam. I just politely move on. The last one actually pointed to a car parked near mine as his, and I wanted to ask if it ran out of gas right as he pulled into the parking spot.... but I don't want to help them see the holes in their scams...

There are just so many freeloaders and scammers these days in the Austin metro. I used to help people on the roadside all the time growing up. Sadly, now, unless I see a lady or really young kids stuck, I have a lot of reservations about stopping to help. If I am out in the country on the other hand, and someone looks like they need help, I will offer.

In any urban setting, people that approach me on foot in parking lots, get nothing, mostly not even a response. I hate that it has come to this, but no one else is going to look out for me and my family, but me.

I offer to fill up their car with my credit card. I haven't had a taker yet.

"Caden's dad" is still out there collecting money for his kids cancer. Kid has been 7 yrs old for 12 yrs now. Popular on reddit as a scammer.
