Saw the post about Travis County schools being required to go to virtual until Sept. 8.

This order was posted yesterday, but no ones really picked it up. If you read the order, it says it goes through November 12.

Travis County has several school districts in it.
Going to be interesting.

Leander has 1 - Vandergrift
Round Rock has 1 - McNeil

I bet Williamson and Hays follow suit

Yes, and the remainder of the order says masks and no groups of more than 10 until November? That would imply sports, including tu.

I understand that the city apparently can't tell tu to do that because they are a state entity. It's still gonna be awesome to see how this all works out.

Right, I don't know how much authority APH has for these orders. They definitely can't over rule the state orders from Abbott. But that won't stop Adler and APH from doing it anyway.

I run a preschool in northwest Austin off 620/Anderson Mill. I'm trying my best to open in the fall. I have 1/3 of my families ready to come back, the rest are completely freaked out. These are the things they see come out of the City of Austin that clouds their judgement. It's driving me crazy.

Our elementary school age son goes to private school, but it's within travesty county. Class sizes are already small (15-16), and they had floated a plan earlier in the summer to have in person instruction for 8 kids in class at a time, then they would rotate to the other half of the class and be supervised while they complete work in another area. I hope they follow through with that. This mishmash of 'orders' are designed to confuse people, unfortunately.

I'm not trying to be a smartass but I read statements like this and wonder why a city or school district would enact policies to intentionally confuse people. Is that just coming from frustration? I honestly believe that local decisions are being made with an abundance of caution because no one knows how this plays out and they damn sure don't want a bunch of sick/dead kids because of their decisions.
Disclaimer: I have no kids, so no dog in this fight, just curious about the sentiment.

Local health authorities have the power to close a school district. They always have. People are just now realizing it. Jim Hogg county has 17 total cases, local health authority has closed the district until october.

Round Rock ISD will have to follow suit, as they have schools in Travis. That is what a principal buddy told me.

This post will be laughed at and called an over-exaggeration...so be it...

Football as we knew it just took a nosedive. Grades 5-10 will see a drastic drop in participation in future years.

Entire age groups in certain demographics will lose complete interest in education.

COVID-19 will be pointed to as the reason but, truly, the death nail is the moribund decisions made by feckless bureaucrats that have had wayyyyy too cush jobs.

If these decisions are followed, then we have allowed a Lost Generation to be created.

At least the AG stepped in and said that county officials can't restrict religious private schools. It would have been a lot easier if Escott's office had called the AG or governor and checked before issuing a conflicting order... heck it's a local call. It seems it's more important to guys like that to try to poke a finger in the state officials' eyes than to try to make things clear and easy to follow for the public.
