Does anyone have firsthand experience on how long the security line wait times are for early morning flights since the DHS/TSA funding situation began? I have a 530AM international flight this Thu and wonder what time I should really arrive at the airport.

The news has been covering it all week. Says the lines are longest in the early morning. If its an important flight, I'd follow their advice and arrive 3 hours early. This is SXSW, spring break, Rodeo, and a smattering of other things all piled on top of a DHS shutdown. It may settle down by Thursday, but who knows.

I've had multiple early flights (5:30a departure) over the past couple of weeks and the lines have been very short. I guess they start forming after I'm gone.

My wife flew out Monday morning for Los Angeles. She got to ABIA around 5:30am for a 7:30am flight.
She timed it and was 21 minutes from curb to gate...

In my experience, wait times at ABIA seem to always be random. I'm never sure how early to arrive.

I've had to wait in the longest lines in the history of air travel, and I've gotten there early and been through to the gate in 10 minutes.

Better safe than sorry. I'd get there plenty early and just grab a coffee while you wait.

I will say, even though my lines have been short lately and I've got through fairly quick, Austin TSA has to be one of the slowest security check points in the country. I fly all over and their security screeners/xray operators are by far the slowest I see. It has to be something from the top down because they are consistently, excruciatingly slow.

Carry on or checked bags? Always a crapshoot if you don't have priority or TSA precheck. Does not help that some airlines do not open the counters early.

Dropped family off early this morning (5:00 for a 7:00 flight) and they were through TSA precheck in less than 10 minutes. Regular lines did not look bad, but airport was not very busy.
