Coming into town for the softball game tomorrow. Want to grab some bbq first. Preferably east of I-35 and reasonably near the game, mid to late afternoon so Franklins is probably out as an option. I found Micklethwait with good recommendations. Anyone know it, or have another place they would suggest?

Parish BBQ (closer)
Mum Foods (would be my first option)

You're correct in that Franklins is probably out. Good weather, Saturday, etc will likely lead to big crowds/out of food.

The closest to the stadium that I would recommend would be Micklethwait (know for sausage), LA Larbeque (maybe my favorite in Austin, but also may be short on supply) then there's KG BBQ & Parish right by each other & Mum a little further. I've never been to any of those but have heard good things. I don't think they're true traditional Texas BBQ.

Other options that aren't far are Terry Blacks on Barton Springs (another can't miss spot...it's where I send anyone who's downtown and asking where to go) and Stile Swith up on Lamar. Depending where you're driving in from these could be good options as well.

My personal rankings are Franklins & LA BBQ followed closely by Terry Blacks. Then Stile Swith a notch above Micklethwait but may be in the minority on this one.

Thanks, I should have said it will be Friday and we are coming from CS. Seems like LA is generally close the stadium as well, will check it out. Thought about Terry Blacks but wondered if the traffic would be more of a pain than it's worth.

Terry Black's if you have to stay in town. Lockhart has three good options if you're willing to drive a little.

ETA: Stiles Switch is a good option as well. Aggie owned.

I thought LA BBQ was overrated a few years ago. I prefer Stiles Switch because it reminds me the most of Louie Muller for brisket and beef ribs. Terry Black is a solid choice.

La BBQ would have a decent line out the door on a nice weekend

Not BBQ, but NADC Burger on East 6th is really good and its pretty close to where you are going

I think Stiles Switch on Lamar and 1431 are both 100% aggie owned

Mums is so damn good for never having more than 5 people in their line. Some of the best sausage and ribs, and the best pastrami I've ever had.

La BBQ was never the same after leaving that quickie pickie.

I haven't been to La BBQ over a year but the last time I went, they hit it out the park.

Had some coworkers in from Europe so had to take them out for some proper BBQ, and not all the nonsense they would eat downtown.

I live on the east side and typically head to Micklethwait, although I haven't been since they moved over to Springdale.

Also love Mum's, just a bit more of a drive for me.

Cool, I just remember overhearing ah ownership in conversation but not the particulars. We used to be regulars for the Wednesday special they once had on smoked prime rib.

They still have it on Wednesdays, and picanha on Fridays. Both are good, but I prefer the prime rib.
