IMO Mi Cocina is pretty much as good tex mex as El Tiempo.
i invite you to get your Tex-mex elsewhere.Matilda said:

Mia's on Lemmon. New spot but has been great for decades.
I can't think of Mia's without remembering this moment.

Mariano's and la hacienda ranch are ok.
Mariano's beef fajitas are more than just OK . I've been to El Tiempo and they are just as good.

Tex-Mex:
99% of it tastes exactly the same regardless of which city or restaurant you are in. There are only a handful of places that could arguably separate themselves from the pack and most of those actually do food that is beyond Tex-Mex.
Change my mind.
Kind of agree, assuming you are talking about Texas. Go far enough north and they can screw up even the basics. Chips, salsa, margaritas, and fajitas are where places can stand out, for me.YouBet said:

I am. Go north and I'm not sure what you even call it. It's not Tex-Mex. It's not anything.double aught said:Kind of agree, assuming you are talking about Texas. Tupi's is Aggie owned. It was founded by the Dominguez family a century or so ago, but Eddie Dominguez, who graduated from A&M in the '60's, was running it up until a few years ago (may still be, but we moved, and I haven't been there in a few years). Always enjoyed it.Saxsoon said:Corps_Ag12 said:
Tupinamba Cafe on 75
Aggie owned (or at best a lot of A&M stuff and a steak named after RC. One of the better places and has some more traditional Mexican food for this gringo who grew up on the border.
Another more traditional Mexican place is tipicos in Carrollton (and another near Love Field)
Second the chipotle enchiladas.BoomGoesThe said:
My favorite place is Pepe's & Mito's in Deep Ellum. I've been going there since 2002 and have never had a bad or even "meh" meal. Their tacos al carbon, chipotle enchiladas, tacos al pastor (and Norteno) are all really, really good. Their salsa and margaritas are also muy bueno.
Get the mezcal drinks specifically the Oaxaca. They are one of the few Mexican places around that keep a full bar of mezcal.chick79 said:
Meso Maya is pretty solid as well. The pablano queso with brisket is the bomb! Great margaritas too.

Both of these choices made me throw up in my mouth a little
Bobby V's always had the best Monte Cristo sandwich - better than Bennigan'ss IMHO.nai06 said:Hincemm said:Cramp00 said:

Are you too good for some DiMaggio Sticks, Rollie Chicken Fingers, or a Mia Hamm and Cheese sandwich
